Whoa Nelly...6 day’s post op and puréed soup

Recommended Posts

So I am 6 days post op on full liquid diet. Wife gave me egg drop Soup with a little shredded chicken and veggie and it has been no biggie.

She “surprised” me today for dinner with Chicken soup with shredded chicken and veggies from a Mexican restaurant that she pureed with a little rice. About 4 oz worth.

holy Moses.....about 5-6 bites in, I got some pretty significant tightness in middle of chest. Stayed around for about 10 min. Like the kind when I first started the Protein Shakes.

Fine now. Sipping on Protein Water. Told her next time let’s added some broth to it to thin it out even more.

yikes. I'm 4 days post op and my doctor won't let me have anything like egg drop Soup. He said he doesn't want anything to push up against my staples. I'm jealous. I'm so hungry!!!

That rice was probably the culprit. The tightness is because you either ate to fast or to much. 6 weeks out and I still have issues with this. I eat too fast and I always have that one more bite that sets off the feeling. Hopefully you won't be like me and keep screwing it up, lol. I'll learn one day.

Not sure if pureed food is included in full liquids, I know it was not in my program. In my mind full liquids are just that, liquids. broth, Protein Shakes, popsicles, a little plain greek yogurt and Water was all I had for the first 2 weeks. You need to be really careful since you sleeve is healing.

Oh, I didn't even realize that. Read and it went right over my head.

Well, that step in the diet plan, full liquids is known as Step 2. My program has a saying:
If you have to chew ****
it is never Step 2****
Also, don't be in a rush,to upgrade too soon, it is not like the world is going to get rid of all the more solid food beforyou can get there!
There will always be healthy solid food waiting for you around the corner. Ease down, Louise, remember rushing toward food to capture it got you in this mess begfore!

No chewing. Smooth like a creamed Soup Frustr8. Just gonna “water it down” with some more chicken broth.

My Dr. said the same thing. I'm just craving texture and something with a little consistency. I did cheat the other day - I had a tsp of creamy peter pan Peanut Butter. It was definitely what my body wanted... - I'll have to fess up to the Dr. next week at my 2 week post op, but I'm afraid to try anything else. I've read and heard horror stories of solid foods tearing out staples or causing leaks. I'm not willing to go through all this only to mess up now.

For my post-op diet, I'll be on Clear Liquids until I leave the hospital, then full liquid / pureed foods for four weeks. I was told the thinner, the better. It should fall through the tines of a fork without any trouble.

I do not see any issue with what you ate, except for the rice. My diet does not allow starchy foods until after week 8. Also, you may have just eaten too much. I have been told that for most of the pureed stage, I will only be able to eat two to three tablespoons of food at each meal. Each tablespoon of food is about 0.5 ounces, so four ounces of food would be about eight tablespoons.

I'm glad you feel better.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
