Hey everybody!!!! I have a quick question: what can I do for Protein other than Premier Protein Shakes!!! I am having the hardest time drinking those things now, they are horrible it's like drinking overly sweet chocolate milk. Any suggestions because it's hell trying to get one down now. Please help in Michigan lol

Protein waters aren't quite as sweet as the shakes. And you can dilute them even further if you want. I like Protein2O.

I found "New Whey" drinks on Amazon. Different flavors, diluted with ice and it tastes like KoolAid. It has 42g of Protein, plus your liquid you mix it with! Win-win!

I feel like a broken record but I'll suggest it again. Try powdered Protein Shakes. You make them how you want, thick or watery and you can add things to them. I find them not nearly as sweet as the premier shakes even though I only tried one vanilla shake pre surgery. The main one I use is Body Fortress and I buy it at Walmart. It's like $17 for a 2lb container. Also like @Orchids&Dragons suggested, Protein2O drinks are great. 16.9oz towards your Water intake and 15g of Protein.

I read on here to add the shake to Decaf coffee or tea,I tried. it and it does cut the sweetness. One thing about drinking the sweet shakes everyday I don't think I'll ever want to eat sweets again!

I take unflavored GENEPRO. I got it from Amazon and it’s 30 grams for a small scoop. I put it in my mug of chicken broth. You can put this in anything. I hate shakes!

Isopure clear Protein Drinks. One bottle has 40 grams of Protein & 160 calories. I bought them at GNC & they were buy 5 get 1 free. I also just bought Ghost brand powder in Peanut Butter Cereal milk, I haven’t tried it yet but several people I know love it.

Don't buy too many of the Isopures to begin with. I found that they left a gross film in my mouth. UGH!

Also lower in Protein and higher in Carbs (5g P and 12g C). I don't think this is a good choice.

I'm just going by what my doctor and nutritionist told me. I prefer the Premier Protein, but since that is not an option for this person, I was providing an alternative.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
