I'm two weeks out from my sleeve surgery and really struggling. If I get enough liquids in me I can't get anything else in - yogurt, applesauce, pudding, nothing. If I eat, I can't enough liquids in and I'm dehydrated. I haven't lost since my pre-op liquid diet either. I'm walking everyday and doing everything I should. Any advice?

Focus on things that count for both fluids and protein: Protein Shakes, Protein Water, broth with added Protein Powder, yogurt, etc. That's the best way to hit your numbers in the beginning when you can't get too much down.

Good luck!

Don't panic about the food part! Just drink. Warm drinks helped me. Herbal tea and so forth. Your tummy is very swollen but that will improve. Your hand should have a drink in it at all times taking a little taste every min or two. It's the only thing you have to worry about. Chin up! You got this. Call your doctor if you feel really bad though. You should be having a post op appointment very quick right?

Are you passing gas, have you had a BM? If I'm bloated (gassy) I will weigh more. Also if you haven't had a BM that could be some of your issue. Consider taking some Milk of Magnesia (approved by your Dr., of course). My post-op paperwork is contradictory, but before I was discharged and on my surgery follow up call from the Nurse I was reminded that the most important thing to do right now is get your fluids in. Protein is important, but not as important as remaining hydrated.

I like you am struggling with liquids. But what seems to work is homemade chicken Bone Broth (heavy on protein) and good source of Water too. I haven't tried warm tea yet, but that will be my next go to on the liquid front to hopefully add some extra liquids into my routine.

Good luck to you and remember you have a whole team of experts and supporters here to help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
