I hope to have gastric sleeve in Houston mid-October. A planner by nature, I would implode if not fully prepared. Have seen many posts about broth frozen cubes and Jello with Protein and assume that is added Protein Powder. Would welcome any input from you seasoned sleevers about protein powder - unflavored vs flavored and planning for that first post month. Linda, in beautiful historic downtown Humble Tx

Like you, I am definitely a planner. I made sure to try all the Premier Protein shakes, buy enough of everything to get me through my first two weeks post op (I'm 1 week post currently) and my words of advice are simple. Don't spend a lot of money. Everything I liked prior to surgery, I am struggling with post. Nothing tastes the same and it was days before that changed, but even more so - I suddenly can't tolerate anything cold or even room temperature. So, the only thing working for me in homemade Bone Broth Soup. I can sip and it doesn't bother me and sit in me like a brick. Popsicles are just now becoming a friend and Jello is squish around in my mouth until it becomes warm liquid.

Try things, but don't go overboard in the purchasing. - I read someone's post that said similar but I didn't listen. Oh how I wish I did. The good news is that most of the stuff has a long shelf life, so it will be there as I go through many of my new stages with food reintroduction.

I was extreme about planning. I went to the Soup isle at the grocery store and spent hours looking for options during my purred stage. Which is funny because I ended up making homemade soup instead. I bought Protein Shakes, Protein Water, SF Jello, multiple broth types, about 10 different SF drink options.... and used about 5% of what I bought. I don't regret getting prepared though, because it helped me get into a really great mindset. Do what makes you feel best!

Walmart and sams club sell protein2O, Amazon does also. GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe sell Isopure.

Almost all the supplement places have it, like GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. Amazon, Walmart, local grocery stores should carry one or two brands as well. I like Protein2O

Do not overstock Protein Shakes. Yes, don't over buy supplement or Vitamins either - my bariatric ones made me barf. There are plenty of stores that stock individual ones. Bone Broth with some celery and carrots cooked in and then strained tasted the best. Sweet shakes were a 'no' after surgery - I could tolerate Isopure ready-made blue raspberry or punch diluted w crystal light lemonade much better.

Good luck.

I buy the variety pack Protein powder drinks. My favorite are Syntrax brand. Coworker who had bypass 10 yrs ago turned me onto crystal light peach tea, mix with syntrax lemon tea and about 20 Oz Water. Yummy!!! Before surgery thought it was OK. Post? Don't know why but I love it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
