I’m 4 days post op on Clear Liquids. Wondering when I should start supplements. Surely my body really needs it now more than ever.

Your team should have gone over this with you, if not be sure to call them and ask. On my program I was allowed to take any medication/supplements right away as long as they were smaller than the bed of your pinkie nail. I had some supplements that were chewable and some that were capsules. Had to switch to all chewable or sublingual for better absorption.

I learned more here than from my surgery team. They were/are very general with the information given. The only one that I get descent info from is my NUT.

My plan says no Patches or gummies due to absorption. But have read from people here that they use them and have no issues. I think EVERY PART of this process varies from one surgery team to the next.

My plan also says no gummies, Patches, or flintstones.

My Vitamins are chewable. My program advised chewable vitamins for at least six months followed by capsules. All of this was discussed in our pre op class.

Yeah cuz I’m living and trying to heal off of broth and crystal light and a little optisourcr Protein Drink at a time my body needs nutrients most! I went into surgery with super low iron! And I’m suppose to eat like this for 3 weeks?? To add insult to injury I’m up 8lb from

surgery date. IV fluids still on day 5? I’m drinking a lot and was in hospital less than 24 hours post surgery. Feeling rather sour about it all...

My calcium citrate chewable I like. My B12 chewable is not bad. But my multi with Iron is horrible. Way to sweet with a nasty ass medicinal taste that just consumes your mouth with yuck. And the after taste lasts for hours. No amount of Water gets rid of it either.

My multi and Iron are chewable. Started taking 2 months before surgery as well as extra vit d as it was low. Have cut back iron pills due to Constipation. Absolutely could not stand the Calcium ones. Ordered liquid Revival calcium from Amazon. 1oz smooth blueberry flavor and that's all the calcium for the day

My team says to start chewable vitamins after my post-op visit, which will happen about a week after surgery. If you are worried, yeah, I bet Patches won't hurt. (It's hard to know how much they can help, by which I mean, how much skin can absorb Vitamins, but I can't see how they'd hurt.)

I am planning to drink some nutritious teas and broths. One week isn't enough to develop a Vitamin deficiency, so I am not stressing much about it.

This should definitely have been something your surgeon or NUT should have gone over with you. When I had my surgery we had classes specifically on this. Also, I had a Myer's cocktail following the surgery. They did that because it lasts for some time because of the amount of Vitamins and nutrients in it and this way, we wouldn't have to try to take pills for 1-2 weeks following surgery, which was good because there's no way I would've been able to do it the week after. The 2nd week maybe, but didn't have to start until week 3 post-op which worked out great.

If you're using vitamins that are in capsules, you could empty them into a smoothie and that way not have to worry about digesting or swallowing the capsule itself, and as long as you're not using anything listed as "time release" you could break up pills as well. Just don't do that with any prescription meds unless you check with your doc first.

Best of luck!

I hope they don't take my prenatal formula away, I like them and I never have had trouble swallowing. About half the size of an Advil caplet. Not going to miss Advil at all, That's what gave me Hector my,little baby gastric ulcer! sleep Hector, sleep! Please, behave until my surgery, I hope Dr,Needleman fixes my Hiatal hernia, th8nk he will! Shouldn't ramp up my discomfort that much.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
