Every single time I take a very small sip of Water it hurts me so bad. I don't have trouble swallowing the water it's after I swallow that starts to hurt. I have tried ice cold water, room temp, and even hot water but nothing seems to work.

Maybe your oesophagus was grazed when the bougie was inserted down your throat? That's what my surgeon said to me shortly after my operation, when it hurt me to swallow.

it took me a few days before my body would allow me Water of any sort also. Just try a little every day.

Plain Water still bothers me to this day, 8 months post op. Try adding something to it, like caffeine free tea, crystal lite, a little lemon (if allowed by your plan). All these things could help the water go down better.

Yeah, my surgery was two weeks ago and its really any liquids but mostly plain Water hurts the most. It hurts in my upper abdomen area and it is a very uncomfortable feeling.

My friend who is a nurse says that Water is actually much heavier than most other liquids. I used to love water before my surgery, but now I have to play all kinds of games to get it down: mixing it with half a pouch of Crystal Light, counting Clear Protein Drinks as water in my daily liquid list, letting myself get thirsty before downing another 8 ounces. I see a big difference in how I feel when I have my required water, though, so my advice is to find which tricks work for you and then just keep using them!

Yeah for whatever reason it goes down better with a little sugar free flavor! Especially in the beginning!

Do you prefer Chrystal Light or Mio Drops?

I just used the Walmart brand crystal light - I’d make a big jug and keep it in the fridge.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
