Hello all...I just joined today

Recommended Posts

I just joined this site today. I’m 49/male, 6’3”, and had lap band surgery in 2011...starting weight was 305 and I got down to 233 in probably 6 months. Over the years the band stopped working, just didn’t feel enough restriction. And I put all the weight back on over the course of four years (2014 to present). My biggest mistake was relying pretty much 100% on the science and not making enough behavioral changes (I made a few early on but it was not nearly enough). I’m scheduled for sleeve surgery on 10/9 and I’m excited to have it done. Of course my goal is to learn from my mistake and make the necessary behavioral and dietary changes this time. I want to get down to 210 which was my weight at one point in college. Any and all tips and advice are welcome and I’m proud to be here with all of you.

Did you decide on the sleeve or was it recommended to you?

I met with my surgeon a few months ago for a lap band adjustment. We were talking about how the band just didn’t work anymore and he asked if I would be interested in the sleeve. After discussing it with him I began the process that day.

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on making the choice to get the sleeve. I'm trying to talk my brother into doing the same as you. He had the band and it didn't work for long. Best of luck to you but I'm sure you'll do great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
