SHNGSTAR 9 Posted August 25, 2018 Going through process to get approved for Bypass after Sleeve. Sleeved in 2012 and have regained the 70 lbs lost. Acid reflux is returning, though it never fully went away. Just turned 55 and wondering about process and healing now that I've gotten older. I was a nervous wreck prior to getting gastric sleeve and once again find myself in that space. Same surgeon so that makes me feel better. He is one of the top bariatric surgeons in country but surgery is surgery. Woke up this morning thinking about bowel obstruction, and long term issues. Anyone over 50 have any issues post conversion? 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
SummerEssence 130 Posted August 25, 2018 (edited) Hello SHNGSTAR, well I haven't had my surgery yet and I'm due to have it September 7th, I was originally going to be a sleeve but, after my doctor got my labs and endoscopy back he feel its best if I'm a gastric bypass now due to my history with acid reflux he said he don't think it would be good to have the sleeve because it only make the acid reflux worse and its inevitable that I would be coming back to convert due to the reflux will definitely get worse and I really appreciate the fact that he's honest and not all about the money meaning he could very well have given me the sleeve knowing darn well I'd have to come back to be revised and honestly I just don't want to have to get a revision I'd rather go with what is best for me and the beginning I just want to start living my life and being the great me and not in and out of the hospital. I originally was not afraid at all as I've been under anesthesia in my life a few times but I too am having the thoughts of issues and my husband is a seasoned gastric bypass patient and he's attempting to assure me I will be fine he thinks because I'm starting from a lower weight and he don't think it will be that hard due to my weight he said his was harder because he was morbidly obese before we met and married, an although I appreciate him so much I still can't help but worry I don't know why it hit me all of a sudden before finding out I was going to be a bypass patient I was cool calm and collected but something has came over me I know I will pray over myself before going into surgery but still I have my husband and my grandkids that reside with me and we care for and I keep thinking I'm in reasonably good health other then my weight that I'm unhappy with and I don't want any issues from this. I know I have to shake it off because the 7th will be here in no time and I will just still the nerves came over me. By the way I'm 205lbs if your wondering and my height is listed under my name. SHNGSTAR 9 Posted August 26, 2018 Summer, we have a few things in common. Absent my weight and bad left knee, I think I'm relatively healthy. other than gastric sleeve, my surgeries have not been elective. The anesthesia certainly adds to the nervousness. Your hubby has been through this and can hold your hand and give you added support. If I didn't chicken out 6 years ago I wouldn't be sitting here now rehashing those fears. The 7th is just around the corner so I'll keep you in my prayers and continue to pray for myself.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted August 26, 2018 And I'll be praying for you both, I am a RuN on September 5th, 1st time so not a revsion but I'm a good friend to have and I'm 72. Our Bari-pal Ellie 123 just had a revision on August 22, she's 40 and doing real well. And I believe you both will also heal fine. So smile Gals we are on our way to better things!😛

I pray that God be the surgeon on our surgery days and that all goes well and we recover fully and quickly without ANY COMPLICATIONS and we lose the weight and keep if off. In Jesus Name. AMEN! See you on the Bypass side. Until then later.
