How many have lost more than the average?

Recommended Posts

I am just over 3 months out from surgery. As a total, I have lost 77lbs, which in theory is 52% of my EBW. However that is going on the recommendation of 145 as my “ideal body weight” and in my opinion is not a good goal for me. I was in great shape in high school as an athlete and was in the 155 area. My goal is 160, though I’d be happy with anything lower than 175. If we go based on 160, then I am at 61% loss of EBW at just 3 months out and 5 months into the process.

If we are going by EBW from date of surgery, I am 44% to ideal, and 51% to goal. All in all I’m pretty happy with my results.

Your medically defined ideal body weight is 130lbs.

100lbs for 5 feet.

6x5=30lbs for the six inches over 5 feet.

So 130lbs ideal body weight.

Surgery day you were about 210lbs. That means you had 80lbs of EBW (excess body weight) to lose--(210lbs-130lbs=80lbs EBW).

Congrats!

I was 260 day of surgery. I’m 209 today (just haven’t updated). And 130?!? Yikes I’d look like the crypt keeper!

I weighed 230 at high point about 220 at surgery and now am 122lbs. The lowest I went was 114lbs but that was too low! My BMI is around 19 now so I guess I've lost over 100% of excess. I'm 18 months out and had an internal hernia op 3 weeks ago. Have skid back to unhealthy choices and for some reason tummy is not tolerating them. It did for a while! So I'm having to rethink food and toods to food!

Thing is, it's where you're happy. Just I guess seize the opportunity - I was very strict with myself and finished losing weight 9 months in. Now I'm realising I still have disordered eating and I can't let go of that.

Good luck to you. Even with my scary hernia I still believe I made a good choice.

😀😀😀

I was 150 when I was 30 years old, just before starting treatment for infertility issues and then getting pregnant. Got back to 170 3 years later after my second baby, so I'm shooting for 170. I figure best weight of 150 + 10 lbs for each kid = perfect goal weight for me. According to the Medical BW quoted here, I'd be at MBW at 155 (5' 11") so I'm fine with 170. I can't believe I'm only 49 lbs from there!! 100 lbs seemed IMPOSSIBLE. 49 feels like it's so close I can taste it!

Just a quick chime in....

I visited the website mentioned above with the weight loss calculator....i never visited the site, nor did i ever think about it. All i knew was my doctors goal for me, which was 150...

And i guess i have lost more than average...i had the lap band, but punched my numbers in for the bypass as well...just out of curiosity.

And either way i have lost more than average....would i have lost more with the bypass? Who knows.

So yes....its possible! Easy? Heck no! But worth it!

😉

I am 4’11” and I never want to be 100lbs. My body type is muscular and hour glass and if I were 100lbs I would have significantly less muscle and would have no curves whatsoever. I would look like a 4th grade boy. There’s so much more to healthy weight than height. Height is important but so is your build, body comp (muscle weighs more than fat), your body type/shape and your frame. Just my view on it.

And like the line from an old Roger Miller song "You Can Be Happy If You've a Mind To"
My dream goal 175 my Bariatric Table Goal 140, what I would really think doable <199 but I will take as much as I can get on the Weight Loss Merry-go-'Round. Okay Everybody?

Fluffy was just explaining how the calculations are done. Not advocating what weight the poster should reach.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
