1 week post op.. protien

Recommended Posts

I'd say definitely talk to your doctor's office about the burning, and ask them what the recommend Protein timescale is. I started adding protein (shake mix into Water, blech) two days after my surgery. Couldn't do a lot, but I tried to do a little more each day.

40 oz of Fluid doesn't sound like enough to me, the minimum I've heard is 64 oz (in fact, recommended for everyone, bariatric surgery or not), but you might have other factors at play in that number.

Thank you, they told me week one its about to 32 to 64 oz of clear liquid. Then say 7 start a protien shake thicker liquid diet for 7 days. But I have read so many things where protien is key the after day 3.

My min Water is 48oz day. Protein is 60-80g. My Dr had me do 2 days clear then full liquid for 2 weeks which is where I am now. I was freaked about trying to get it all in (1oz every 15-20 min would take all day by itself). Dr told me to concentrate on getting protein in. Water intake will follow

Definitely follow your doctor's orders. They're the medical professional who has a plan for you.

"These are goals. Targets. Aim for them, work towards them, don't beat yourself up if you don't reach them." Was what I was told over and over again when I brought up concerns in the first few weeks that it was too difficult to get my 90g of Protein and 64oz of Water down one painful ounce at a time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
