hopeful333 49 Posted August 19, 2018 I am struggling and so frustrated. I had my last period the day of my surgery 5/2/18. I have not had one since. I am 48 years old, wondering if the surgery triggered menopause. I have PMS symptoms every month which are getting worse. I feel sad, depressed, cry too easily and get angry so quickly. I am upset because my weight loss is so slow and am afraid that I won’t lose the weight I need to. I lose 1/2 lb to a 1 lb a week if I am lucky, seem to stall frequently. I know I need to increase my exercise but just feel so miserable that I can barely get through the day. I feel like a failure, I weighed 206 on the day of my surgery and weigh 184 now. 22 lbs in 3 months when the doctor says I should be losing 10 lbs a month! Today is rough, crying and trying to work is difficult. Thanks for letting me vent❤️

My weight loss has been slow as well. Hang in there. 2 KristinOlivia and hopeful333 reacted to this
Vegasurvivor 85 Posted August 19, 2018 I had surgery on the same day as you!! May 2nd.. I'm losing the same as you 1 to 2 lbs per week if lucky. I've had plenty of weeks where I didn't lose. In fact the whole last month I've lost maybe two pounds. I'm OK with that. I dont feel its slow at all. Our bodies are adjusting. I'm 56 yes old and I think age has a lot to do with it. I'm sure you've lost in inches!! Does your surgeons office have a support group you can go to or do you have insurance that covers seeing a therapist? I attend a support group once a month and its really helpful. I am struggling and so frustrated. I had my last period the day of my surgery 5/2/18. I have not had one since. hopeful333 49 Posted August 19, 2018 Thank you for your response. I have an appointment with my bariatrician this month. We do have a support group that meets twice a month, I haven’t been yet but maybe I will give that a try. I have lost inches for sure but continue to wrestle with food demons. I pick myself up when I fall and press on. I agree that my age is a factor. Thanks for the encouragement!

KristinOlivia 35 Posted August 19, 2018 I had surgery in July... period is way beyond late at this point (should have had it right after surgery). PMS symptoms have been present since then.. moodiness, cramps, headaches. I’m sure the shock of surgery/reduced food intake has something to do with it. I’m not too concerned. Taoz 284 Posted August 23, 2018 I'm 38 and my surgery was also May 2nd At time of surgery my period was 2 weeks late (I'm usually very regular, I figure delayed by VLCD for 3 weeks pre surgery) and it arrived nearly a week post op. It has remained odd since. some post op have been crazy heavy as usual, the most recent was shorter and lighter, the one before at least 2 weeks late. I think the low calorie intake, the surgery, and the hormonal changes it causes really throws our system out of whack, and it might take a while to settle back into it's new normal (or not settle for a while, if menopausal). Frustr8 7,886 Posted August 23, 2018 Our bodi3s are wonderful, weird at times but still wonderful. I think our bodies may be struggling too, trying to make sense out of all that has happened. Surgery changed you emotionally, your balance, don't you think your body is trying to adjust what physically has happened,to it? When you had surgery, you punched it hard, it wasn't expecting that and it's still staggering, trying to shake off the blows like a boxer who's fought out of his class! Your body is saying "Whaaa Happened?" Chill down, things will level off, if they don't, check with your gynecologist, if you've gone into menopause, no big deal , it's not a bad place to be, maybe this way,if smooth and effortless. In ancient days you would be considered a wise woman, a treasure , someone who's been there , seen a lot, did most things and now lives vibrantly for the future. Older chicks Rock, I'm one and I'm really a force to be contended with!👵👍
AdiosAnnie300 16 Posted August 23, 2018 I am 46 and can relate to the slow weight loss. I average 6 pounds a month and this week I gained 2 pounds! I am a surgical induced menopause patient since age 36 so I do think age and meno can slow the process. With my experience in endocrinology/gynecology I would say your period has suspended due to the very low calorie diet and post op healing. It’s good that you will be meeting with your physician. I found soy based supplements to be helpful for menopause symptoms.
