How many days after surgery did you have your first poo?

Recommended Posts

Doing a little poll...
How many days after surgery did you have your first poo? Assisted by laxatives or unassisted?

I'm only 2.5 days post-op so I'm just gathering data. But if you want to tell me your poo story go for it. I'm all ears.

I'm still waiting after 6 weeks...Just kidding. I think it was 3 or 4 days. I was scared to be honest. They gave me concentrated milk of magnesia to take every night. I still take it. I don't think I'm getting in enough fluids. I do have chewable Fiber pills, but I'm hesitant to take because of the Fluid issue.

I noticed that I don't really get the "I've got to go" signal anymore. It's more of a "Oh, I might need to go in a few hours" type feeling. I used to be regular every morning, now I'm +/- up to 6 hours, some days I don't go at all.

I had a BM on day four post op. I was taking prescribed stool softeners every day with pain meds, and I took milk of magnesia on the evening of my third day postop.

A NMB Question, did any of you have to do a mag citrate cleansing before your Bariatric Surgery, or did the liquid diet immediate right before "empty" you out enough that your colon was squeaky clean.? Wonder if that has to with many days until I poo-ed group?
.P.S. --of course NBM stands for Not My Business

The green veggies my surgeon had me eating before the surgery had me empty. I was running to the 🚽 with only diarrhea and boy was it gross(TMI Sorry). I’m worried about not going gonna call the office after tomorrow. I was told to give it a week. In the past not going would make me gain. Of course I’m still on only liquids and one Protein Shake a day. That could have lots to do with it also.

Cats not impressed-Hmmn? Too bad you don't have a dog that demanded to,be let outside to escape the smells.
You know you make me wax Rodgers and Hammersteinish, paraphrase. "There is nothing like a Dame" from South Pacific. Are you ready?
There is nothing like a Poo***Nothing in the world***There is nothing you can do***That beats a heartfelt sincere poo!
There is nothing to stirs like a Poo***And Nothing that occurs like a.Poo*** Nothing clears the house like a Poo*** Repels a spouse like a Poo*** Nothing scares cats like a Poo***Makes them ask "What's That?" like a Poo*** There's not a thing you can. find*** Relieves the pain in your behind*** Like a Heartfelt Post- Surgical Poo!
Thank You, Thank,You, the line of Worshipful Admirers may form : Stage Left! And now I will put my C Pap back,on and go back to sleep! PS I am having that trouble presurgical, don't know if it's too many Protein Shakes or the Iron pills. Wonder if the local Bookmobile, lends out SquattyPotties?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
