I'm 44 and getting sleeved on Monday. I've lost 50 lb on my own. I feel like this is the perfect time in my life to do it.

Holy hell. 49. I will be 50 in November.

Sleeved four years ago at age 45 still maintaining my weight. I've had the time of my life in my 40's. Still having adventures. Life is short.

Sleeved just before my 44th birthday. I’m 4 months post-op tomorrow, and down 72 pounds (286 to 214). Proud of how my hard work is paying off, and love how proud my wife and kids are as well!

I'm 42 and I was sleeved 3 weeks ago. I don't think I could have afforded the surgery in my 30s and I don't think I was mature enough to handle all the lifestyle changes that come with the surgery. I do wish I had it done 2 years ago when I started having PCOS issues. I wasted a lot of time trying to fix a problem that the surgery has improved already.

Thank you for posting this! I am getting my sleeve on Nov 6th and I was saying how infertility meds and PCOS have destroyed me and all the efforts I did to get pregnant, how losing weight never worked, I was worried about the sleeve working, but I need to give something a chance... your comment was just what I needed to see! Hope you are doing well on your journey!

Just checking in on this thread. I'm 46 and I had my sleeve 8/16/18. I'm down 43.2 from my highest and 24.5 down since my sleeve. I've been doing well and have tolerated every food I've tried so far; no nausea or vomiting. I'm still learning how to stop BEFORE I eat a bit too much and get that uncomfortably full feeling. It's like my mind is like no way will that satisfy you so I go another bite or two and then I'm like that was definitely a bit too much. I'm on a regular full diet now but just being mindful of not eating anything that is super hard to digest. How is everyone else doing so far?

I also don’t have any issues in regards to tolerating different foods. I have always been a slow eater so I have been able to stop eating before over doing it. I am 1 month out from surgery & hit a stall. Went to gym last night & will be trying to get more exercise this week to get the scale moving.

That's great. I do tend to eat too fast. Working on that. I'm thinking of joining a new local gym that has Zumba and kickboxing as I think those sound fun. I haven't hit a stall yet but I did notice the weight loss slow down considerably during Weeks 3 to 6 but it seems to be moving again pretty good.

I'm 42 and finally scheduled to be sleeved this November. I have looked into surgery multiple times in my life, starting back in my 20s, but I never had decent enough insurance that would even touch it before now. I wish I'd had it done sooner, but I also think that I might be more successful now because I'm more mature and I understand dieting and nutrition better. I think I used to view it as a quick fix and now I know that it must be a total lifestyle change to work.

Great point! I have been saying that I should have done this 10 Years ago but at 34, I don't think I would have had the maturity or dedication to truly change my lifestyle. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
