Had my sleeve surgery on Thursday!

Recommended Posts

After months of preparation and insurance approval rigmarole, I was finally scheduled and had my surgery! Official pre-op weight was 264 lbs. I haven't been weighed since surgery, so I don't know how much I've lost so far, but I feel lighter already.
Day of surgery was rough.. I was in a lot of pain and constantly vomiting or dry heaving. The first night I actually threw up bile and old blood.. it was awful. And I couldn't drink anything to get the taste out of my mouth. Finally my kind nurse gave me a small cup of Water to swish and spit, and I felt better. First day post-op was kind of rough too.. more nausea and pain. I think the IV pain medication was making the nausea worse, though, and I was having a hard time keeping even water down.
I took a few walks, though, and a shower, and that helped me feel a lot better. Last night was less vomiting (only because I tried cranberry juice.. maybe the acidity didn't sit well?) and my switch to oral pain medicine helped too.
This morning I feel like I turned a corner. I've been keeping my broth and Crystal Light water down, and ice chips are amazing. No more nausea, just a little pain. I'm going home in a few hours.
So happy I started this journey! Thanks for reading my diary entry ;)

How are you feeling? I had my sleeve yesterday. I am not in that much pain! I just had terrible diarrhea and my belly gurgles when I put something in it. I really hate that discomfort feeling. Wish you the best of luck!

I'm feeling okay now. I get that weird gurgly feeling when I drink, too, and if the temperature isn't right I get a sort of stabbing pain in my back. I haven't had diarrhea (or any bowel movement at all, except gas). Overall, though, not much pain and no more nausea, so I feel pretty good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
