Please help. Supposedly tight band but hungry and eating anything...

Recommended Posts

I just simply don't know what is going on! I was banded over three years ago. I had lost 100 lbs but it was on a pretty tight fill. I got a cold and it made my band get way too tight so the doc unfilled me nearly completely. Since then (a year and half ago) I haven't been able to get restriction. I have some but I can eat anything and i'm hungry all the time. the first bite is painfull but after it goes away I can eat anything i want in any amount. I have gained back 40 lbs in the process.

I have tried several times to get filled up again. I've gone to the doctor and they've looked at it under fluoro while i drink the barium. Well it looks tight under fluro! So he says nah, you are tight enough. I have 3.1 cc's in a band that holds 4 cc's. How can it look to be so tight yet I don't feel tight at all? I'm still hungry too.

What can I say to him today to get him to give me some restriction???? I'm not ready to give up on this but it's been a year and a half. I've even changed doctors but they won't listen to me when I say it's not enough! Please help.

P.S. I do understand the band won't do it all for me but i need some help with this expensive tool. Thank you.

I guess that was asking a bit much. I just got back from my fill and it went well. I poured my heart out to him and looked at the fill under fluoro and said yes, I did need a fill. I told him the other doctor refused to do it because he said i was too tight as it is. But this one disagreed and said the pictures don't lie. So he gave me .3 cc's. I can't tell much difference yet but i haven't eaten anything solid yet. I'm just hoping i'm finally on my way this time.

Good for you being persistant.

Seems it would have been simple for the 1st doc to give you a slight fill IF you came back for a chekup at 1 week. He could have monitored you.

Good for you!

Oh, I have pneumonia and can't hold down anything, even my antibiotic comes back up.

But I think this will be temporary...doc can't see me til next week so I am just waiting it out.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
