Dumping Syndrome w/ gallbladder out & now sleeve

Recommended Posts

SO... I've already had my gallbladder out prior to be scheduled for VSG. I know this can be a side effect of VSG. My question is if anyone else has had their gallbladder out prior and then have symptoms gotten worse or better after they had the sleeve.

Actually Dumping isn't a common side effect of the VSG at all, Dumping happens in Bypass more frequently to be considered a typical side effect, but the sleeve... it happens, but it's quite uncommon.

Although uncommon, its possible. I can dump. I have the sleeve. I do still have my gallbladder however.

I had dumping after having my gallbladder out prior to my vsg. I was put on medication and it has helped tremendously. Since I have had the vsg, it has slowed down but I still have to take the meds.

I had problems with my gallbladder and had it removed before VSG. After the gallbladder surgery I still had issues with going to the bathroom, however, since I have had the VSG I haven't had any issue with dumping.

I also had my gall bladder out and experienced dumping on rare occasions! # weeks out of sleeve surgery I haven't had any dumping.

I was a bit silly yesterday. I drive for a living and can easily get bored and boredom can lead to snacking.

I called into a garage for some diesel and on impulse bought a Twix. I knew I shouldn't but my willpower disappeared :57_cry:

I had the whole thing and within minutes felt so ill, I had to pull over into a layby. I thought I was going to erupt from both ends, I felt clammy, it was truly awful. I managed to keep it in and after about half an hour, I felt well enough to drive home. I had delivered a parcel in London but I live 4 hours away in Yorkshire so it wasn't the best situation!

It was my first real instance of dumping and its not something I am going to repeat.

P.s I had my gall bladder out years ago and suffered from ibs ever after but this surgery has made that go away, its been amazing!

Im hoping so. IBS has been awful with my gallbladder surgery. there is so much i cant eat without having to prepare to be near a bathroom (i.e. iceberg lettuce, sweets, etc). Im sorry you had that experience :( with the twix

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
