I can’t believe the judging going on here! I lived on instant mashed potatoes my first 2 weeks post op! And after 4 1/2 months I will still have some if my stomach is feeling iffy! The quantity is nowhere close enough to do any harm! Do what works for you! Congratulations and continued success!

Many think their plan is the only plan. Many see things very black and white.. Some encourage bad choices. Others are vets that eat totally differently.

We are adults. It's a choice to follow or not follow your Surgeon's instructions. The only one that has to be happy with your surgery outcome is you.

I found that mashed potatoes are my go-to food. I have taken a bite or two of a few different items but it seems like after a long day a nice little bowl mashed potatoes is just perfect. Another thing that I am discovering I really like is hot tea I was a huge sweet tea drinker before my surgery, but now I really enjoy a cup of hot tea one every few days it just seems to make my stomach feel great. Anybody else have any go-to foods or drinks that they want to share?

Mine was mashed potatoes as well, but by week three, it caught up to me and caused me to have a 3 week stall from week 3 to week 6. Per my surgeon's office, my body held on to those potatoes like I was in a third world country. Once you can add more foods, definitely wean off of them. I will be two months out on Sept 2nd, my go toos are tuna and baby bel cheese! If I need a snack, which I try not to, but I grab a baby bel light. congrats on your surgery!!!

ps. the mashed potatoes were on my plan per my doctor

Mashed are on my never list. My Dr spent a Sunday doing emergency surgery for mashed potatoes that blocked. Can have them baked when I go to soft foods

I can understand that. It was almost like a gateway food for me. I was allowed mashed potatoes at week 3, then I kept eating them and plateaued. Now I stick to a lower carb diet and don't even look at them. Crazy how everyone's meal guidelines are so different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
