Hi everyone. I am about 2 weeks post op and my incisions are just about healed. My incisions are small but visible and I am thinking about treating the scars. Has anyone found anything that they like or that works really well?

Not using anything specifically for scar treatment but I did put neosporin on my scars two days last week to see if it would help them heal. Mine scabbed like normal but then the scabs came off one by one either because of Water from the shower or when I dried myself afterwords. They have shrunk but not completely healed yet. Glue has also come off so they are now open on the surface and I can feel and see the stitches on two of them.

How do your scars look now?

That's a great way to look at it. Maybe I'll just let nature take its course and see what happens.

Bio Oil was recommended to me for skin firming, and it also has scar removing components to it. I highly recommend it. It has 100% changed my skin in a positive way. And its cheap as well, its not like the other products on the market that cost a lot to try.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have seen some commercials for Bio Oil so I have heard of it before. I'll look for some.

There is a divot where the scabs once were on three of them and new scabs have formed below the surface of the skin. The biggest one is almost completely healed.

I was told to use cocoa butter on them multiple times a day once the scabs were fully formed. All but my largest scar are thin and light pink (3.5 months later). My largest scar is still red/pink. They will continue to fade across the year.

I wonder if A&D ointment would do good since I am your resident allergic-to- chocolate person?

Silicone tape, gel, sheets, are what cosmetic surgeon universally recommended.

It has been clinically proven to be effective

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4486716/

I used silicone tape soon after I was healed over and kept the tape on consistently for about 3 months. They are now tiny white lines surrounded by a faint pink area. I don't think most people would notice unless I pointed them out.

This is what I used:

So you just put the tape over the scars with no cream?

Yep, I just cut a little piece off and stuck it right over my scar. The tape stays well. I usually changed my tape once per week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
