Anyone get some medicine to calm them through the IV? Does it work? I was nervous as heck, on the verge of panic crying, so I can definitely relate to what you are going through! They did give me some IV meds before they took me back, it took the meds probably less than a minute to kick in and suddenly everything was fine. It all felt a little surreal, and I was no longer ready to panic cry, I think I even felt a little silly. The waiting to go to the surgery room after getting into my gown was definitely the worst part. Just be sure to tell them how freaked out you are and ask for something to calm you down. They wont give it till after you've signed the consents and gone over everything with the doc's, but once its on board you'll be fine. 1 1 SummerDream and jultrim18 reacted to this
tahoegirl96118 43 Posted August 16, 2018 I've had a few surgeries and I'm always sooooo nervous. I've been given something to calm me down in the past and it knocks me out (I'm a true light weight). I'll for sure be asking for something before my surgery. I don't think we would be normal if we all weren't a little nervous. Let us all know how it goes for you! 1 1 jultrim18 and Frustr8 reacted to this
Vizslamom 92 Posted August 16, 2018 Everything will be fine. Your medical team knows what they are doing. And you'll sleep through the surgery! 1 1 jultrim18 and Frustr8 reacted to this
Letsgetgoing2018 448 Posted August 16, 2018 I was very nervous and felt like running out of the hospital when I was getting prepped. They gave me something for anxiety when I was on my way back to the or and I was fine. You will do great. Try to relax and deep breathe. 1 1 Frustr8 and jultrim18 reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted August 16, 2018 Well I am atypical. You see this is the University I yearned to attend. Money, life and,my family got,in the way. If I could,be back, I would still go, work out funding as I went, not care that my parents, and later, my husband didn't approve and I buckled under, shelved my hopes and that. future died for,my. Still I had my middle child in that hospital, and, cornu as it sounds, I feel like I have come home after a LONG TIME away! Perhaps this is why I feel no anxiety about the surgery upcoming, I feel warm , sheltered and safe there. 1 jultrim18 reacted to this
GreenTealael 25,439 Posted August 16, 2018 (edited) The meds calm you anyway. I was nervous, so nervous, I prayed before surgery with my Rabbi then talked a bit the surgeon, got the meds felt loopy was rolled into the OR to the sound of applause and cheers , I felt like a star, then out like a light. CONGRATS!!! Edited August 16, 2018 by GreenTealael 2 jultrim18 and Frustr8 reacted to this
SummerDream 97 Posted August 16, 2018 I was definitely very nervous. The wait really is the worst. Too much time for your imagination to run wild. At one point my husband asked me what I was looking for and I told him "The exit!". Needless to say, the staff will take good care of you. Like @Tahoegirl said, we wouldn't be normal if we weren't nervous, Best of luck to you!! Keep us posted! 1 1 jultrim18 and Frustr8 reacted to this

J San 1,071 Posted August 16, 2018 Congrats on reaching your day. Best of luck to you getting over your nerves. Whether you get meds to calm you or not there really is no need to be nervous. Everything will be fine and you'll wonder why you were so nervous to begin with. 1 1 jultrim18 and Frustr8 reacted to this
