Ordering bridesmaid dress?

Recommended Posts

I had gastric bypass surgery on 8/10 and am the maid of honor in a wedding in mid October.

How many dress sizes would you say to go down so my dress isn’t crazy large?! I’ve lost 13 pounds is less than a week too.

It’s really hard to say. I’ve lost 45 pounds in 3 months, and have gone from 18/20w to 14/16 in “regular” sizes.

It's impossible to predict. Because literally every single person reacts differently to WLS. I've dropped 75 lbs since March 2nd. I ordered some compression gear from China, and by the time I got it, less than a month later, it was too big.

I honestly, wouldn' t go down more than one sixe. The larger you are the more you have to,go down to change sizes,, it's not fair but that's the rules. of ladies clothes. But as we get smaller the sizes change quicker, there might only be 5 pounds between,a 10 and 12.

That's hard to predict can you have the store order/bring in a procession of sizes down in the same dress so that you can estimate? Bridesmaids dresses are not usually super custom so it shouldn't cost a fortune if requested ahead of time...

Remember it's super easy and fast for a tailor to (cheaply) take in a dress that's too big, a lot harder for them to give you more room if it's too small. I bought a bridesmaids dress for a wedding I was in and ended up losing a bunch of weight between ordering and the actual wedding. I think it took $35 and two days for a tailor to pin it where I wanted it to fit and for me to get it back!

Go with the 18 for the reason AEL said above, would have said the same but she beat me to it. If the tailor has to cut it down a lot and I hope so, you might have enough left for a coin purse or clutch!

Thanks for the insight guys. I unfortunately already ordered the 16 so I’m just going to really hope for the best 😐

If it’s already ordered it’ll come in plenty of time for you to let them know if you need an exchange if it’s too small. When it arrives check with the vendor to see how long an exchange would take, if they say, for example, two weeks, then I’d try on the dress 3-4 weeks before the wedding and if it’s still too small then go ahead with the exchange!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
