Lost over 60lbs but still the same dress size

Recommended Posts

Morning all.

I am 16 weeks post gastric sleeve surgery. I have lost 62 lbs yet I have not dropped a dress size. Has anyone else had this problem?

It’s pretty common. There’s a huge gap between larger sizes. I had to lose about 50 pounds to drop a size when I started and now only about 10 pounds.

Also, a lot of us are wearing clothes that are stretchy, or maybe even a little tight at the beginning of our journeys. So we have to drop huge amounts to get to the next size.

Dont worry, it will happen!

Got to remind myself this is the real world, you have to work for your miracles.

Dee is right, the higher your starting size the more weight you will need to drop to drop an actual size. You will notice once you get down to the lower end of plus sizes, or higher end of misses, say 16-18, you do not have to drop as much. Ten or fifteen pounds makes a much larger difference in size than it does above say a size 22.

To me, this is similar in the way that the more weight one has to lose, the longer it takes for people to notice and comment.

I am on my second closet clean out now at over 130 pounds down so it does get pricey, although it is fun to buy new things. Get as much use out of things you can and only buy things that are deeply discounted as you lose!

Yes plus sizes are deceiving and mostly knit fabrics. It also depends on your shape and where you predominately hold your fat. I carry it mainly in my stomach and forever it wasn't budging. So I have skinny legs, no bum. Sometimes it takes awhile for all the fat, Fluid to shift around, the body needs time to adjust. I find during a long stall I will just melt inches. Just this past week my boobs are just f****** flat azz pancakes 😭 and now my abdomen is now a wrinkly sharpei puppy, finally! My niece on the other hand has a small waist, huge hips, slim face, and a big bum, so she would shrink differently than me.

I shop at Goodwill and St Vincent de Paul and LOVE filling my closet with those thrifty items as I drop sizes. So much fun!

You will get there. Congrats on your journey so far!

Yeah I can understand what you're saying. I have big bum, slight pot-belly. and bigger calves, so where pants taper in I don't, and the pretty dress slacks are always pegged. Guess I'm stuck,in Boxer waist straight leg pants until the "reno " kicks into High Gear.

When I started my preop diet on 4/18 I could hardly wear anything in my closet. I never bought anything above a 20W and just got by with super stretchy leggings and jeggings, loose tunic tops and open cardigans. I now can wear many things I could never get into and have actually sold brand new with tags clothes on eBay that are too big. Clothing sizes are so variable that it helps me to try a bunch of stuff on that now fit that lets my brain know I am getting smaller.

I still get frustrated when I am out shopping and some things are too tight even though I have other things in my closet the same size that fit.

Do you have a before picture in any of those dresses? Because I bet, while they still fit, they fit differently now, at least.

(Also, I don't know about the rest of you, but some of my clothes that "fit," pre-op, are ... probably smaller than my, uh, actual size.)

I agree with that! I probably fit better in my clothes but I am going away next week and have been having to buy summery clothes in the same size and it’s been disheartening really!

Hey news flash , I think I am ready to diminish a size, only took how many pounds? if you go back to my highest till now, 90 pounds ? Went from tightly wearing a 26-28 to loosely wearing a 26-28. And that tain't fair, I know I have lost weight, when I look in the mirror, my face to me looks gaunt, remember I lived at Chubby&Tubby a LONG time. I have no more double chin, my neck is looking like a turtle' s emerging from my shoulders, my collarbone stick up further, I am looking my A**Padding, some chairs I can sit on only SO long. Yeah, exercise freaks "Get Up and Move Around" would if I didn't burn up my calorie reserves, meager as they be, I fear keeling over, falling and busting a bone or 2. Look how pew poor and slowly I am healing, do I really need fractures also. My stomach is even flabbily decreasing in size, I no longer get stuck in chairs with side arms, that was embarrassing having Tomkitten pull and pry me up , and some even made a sucky noise as I released. Of course there are still some the wrong height, New homes thresholds I have to have help getting in , not so much weight as 2 knee replacements, 85% as good as natural and NO PUSHING POWER to lift me,up. Told Landlord I am going to need new steps , porch or a landing to accommodate me. Gonna give him a couple months, no motion and I sick the Ohio Department of Aging on him. Maybe first of December I buy myself a grab bar for the bathtub, a rubber mat so I don't slip, that way I don't HAVE to sit on my shower chair. I would like a stand up shower again. I think they must have re-glazed that tub. Oh well only been here a week and half, how much do I muddy the waters? At least it isn't an upstairs apartment , that would have been worse!

Sizing is so weird! I've lost 177 pounds, so you think I would be down a ton of sizes right? Not really. I started at a 4x shirt, and I'm now in a 2x shirt. Pants, I was in 32s and I'm now in 26s (3 sizes down). I'm keeping at it though. You've got this! Also, I see the original post was a couple of months ago; how are things going now?

WOW! 177lbs - you’re inspiring! I’ve lost 82 lbs now - not much change in the dress size! Belts are needed for my jeans and my coats can fasten but in terms of tops - I’ve not bought a size smaller yet! My waist is shrinking but my arse is not!! X

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
