Khloe617 21 Posted August 15, 2018 Omg so I’m 6 days post sleeve still on liquids and I’m starving. I wasn’t expecting to feel hungry but I am. Idk all this sugar free stuff just turns me off to the point of starvation. I’d rather drink 3 cups of 1% milk a day -27 grams of Protein and once I start purée gain my protein thru can chicken or fish, etc.- than drink another Protein Shake. I just ate some Jello because I was so hungry I couldn’t sleep. I don’t feel weak or anything. Pain is pretty much gone. Any tips to fill full while on liquids. They literally run thru me. TMI but I’m experiencing lose bowels which I read was normal. ANYWAYS HELP. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
GreenTealael 25,439 Posted August 15, 2018 Some people never lose the hunger sensation. Not a lot of information is being distributed about this. Its usually attributed to head hunger and sometimes it's not. You can drink low calories items constantly. Savory broth, soothing tea, etc. You can also speak with your team and see what they have to say. Also are you on a PPI? The stomach acid sensation after surgery is as strong as hunger. Rule out head hunger and stomach acid to give your team a better idea of how to help you CONGRATS!!!! 2 sillykitty and Frustr8 reacted to this
EsoKev 94 Posted August 15, 2018 I had an angry hungry stomach for a bit... Like waking up in the middle of the night hungry. We realized my PPI wasn't quite working and changed it. This seemed to help quite a bit. Now hunger is more of a tap on the back than a ravenous feeling. 3 Frustr8, Sosewsue61 and sillykitty reacted to this

You can thicken up your shakes with thickeners you can buy at any pharmacy or you can use ice, more protein, etc to help you feel fuller longer. Fiber helps keep you full too. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
Orchids&Dragons 9,047 Posted August 15, 2018 Try a TUMS, if it helps with the hunger, you have acid issues. I pop several TUMs a day to stave off "hunger". I usually find that I'm not really hungry. 2 Frustr8 and sillykitty reacted to this
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted August 15, 2018 Your body is hungry. True hunger is okay, you are not consuming enough calories yet and all these adjustments take time while you heal. Try some Bone Broth, I used to cook up vegetables and meat in mine and then blend and strain it - tastes so much better than sweet shakes. Once you do pureed food you will feel more satisfied and much better physically. Acid reflux can feel like hunger, so you might need a ppi, pepcid or something. Ask your doc or try something to see if that helps. Hang in there, this will be a distant memory soon. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
Vegasurvivor 85 Posted August 17, 2018 I had the hunger also!! I woke up after surgery with an image of a big Mac in my head. My stomach would growl loud!! I was so disappointed the first weeks after surgery because I expected not to feel the hunger sensation. My stomach settled down and it went away. The nurse told me that it would and she was right. I hope your feeling better already!Sent from my Z970 using Tapatalk 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
bambi_unbridled 1 Posted August 17, 2018 My hunger never went away. The Omeprazole helps a tad, but not much. I'm 7 weeks out now and still feel it regularly. For full liquid stage, I mixed Protein Powder into almost everything. Protein Jello, protein popsicles, protein Water, etc.Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app
Frustr8 7,886 Posted August 18, 2018 Everyone testifies on here that once you can get to pureed and softts, things that don't "slide" right through you will see a remarkable change. Stay the course--' it WILL be coming soon!
janslack50 0 Posted August 18, 2018 5 days post op and waking up w/gas pains. Chew 2 s/f tums and seems all is better. Need to make it thorough this liquid stage, b/c when having good days, I tend to think next step but on a morning like this. I would rather rest.

I used generic gas x chewables they are a god send for gas. Idk if you’ve had a bowel movement yet but once you do gas seems to subside. I feel so good honestly no side affects, pain or complications thank god. Water is going down so much faster and smoother. Everyday gets better 4 more days until purée and I’m ready because I have hunger pains. Sf food makes me have the runs so the doctor says nothing is lasting in my stomach to make me feel less hungry but purée will help. Good luck Edited August 18, 2018 by Khloe617
