8 Months post RNY and stalled 2 months

Recommended Posts

I had RNY 12/21 and was 218 day of surgery (pre surgery 230) and I am 175 at 8 months post op. I fear I won’t lose anymore weight. My surgeon is happy with my loss. She says she wants us to be healthy, not look like a model. Lol. But seriously I want to get to 140. Not sure how to jump start my weight loss.

You may need to share what you are doing to get some responses. What is your diet? Are you tracking your intake? Do you exercise?

If you are asking for advice these are things people will want to know!

I stick to eggs scrambled for Breakfast a chicken Caesar salad for lunch and dinner is usually chicken or steak. I have a morning and afternoon Snacks of either Premier Protein shake, or Quest bar or small snack size bag of beef Jerky from costco. I drink Water all day and I have my cup of Decaf coffee in the morning with my vanilla Creamer I haven’t given up yet

If you are not currently, start tracking every calorie you are eating in an app like my fitness pal. It is possible you are eating too much, as a snack here or there does add up. The average person underestimates what they eat by 20 percent if they are not tracking so it’s a good place to start if you are not doing this.

You will lose weight slower closer to goal but two months seems like a long time at less than a year out.

That’s what I thought. I will start tracking for sure tomorrow.

I am also 8 months post RNY. Surgery December 14 and presurgery wt was 195. 208 two weeks prior. I’ve finally hit my goal of 140 but I really had a hard time stomaching some of the foods you mentioned. Still do! chicken and beef still gets “stuck” and hurts, and I can’t handle the sweetness of Protein Bars anymore! It sounds like you can tolerate a lot so you may be overeating and not realizing it. I’m a grazer so this is the only way I can get enough Protein in. I hope The keeping track of intake helps you! I’ve revised my goal to 130 but I’m stalled right now so it may not be doable. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
