Skyrim Icelandic Provisions

Recommended Posts

Just a quick food tip - most of us know that Greek yogurt is a good food choice after WLS (higher in Protein, goes down easy), but many brands with any flavor have a lot of added sugar. Skyr Icelandic Provisions is a new label for me, with great stats: in a big single-serving container (250g), it has 130 Cal, 11g sugar, 2g fat, and 15g protein. And it tastes great!
Enjoy!

That's still a lot of sugar (even if I'm only eating it in my second life)

And agreed, 11g of Sugar is a bit high considering it's added sugar and not natural sugars (they add cane sugar, it's not just from the fruits) The plain has 5g but it's not added, so that would be ok for most folks. But lots of us are on the 5/5 restriction (or something like it) where if there are added sugars, we are not supposed to consume more than 5g per serving. The other 5 is for fat per serving.

Siggis has a "No added sugar" line in the 4% milk fat. The one I have has 5 sugar, 120 cals ,4 fat and 11 Protein.

And an Icelandic-English dictionary, people say it's among the most, difficult languages to learn. Of course I'm told baby👶 Icelanders speak it almost from birth!😛

Siggis is another brand of Icelandic yogurt - similar to Greek in being filtered and concentrated, so higher Protein. Like Skyr, their flavored yogurts are a low sugar added, at around 11g total; compared to 6-8 g of naturally occurring sugar in unflavored yogurt, that isn't bad, and reasonable compromise between the usual national brands that can run 20+ g for the flavored varieties, or the usual "low carb" artificially sweetened types. The Icelandic yogurts also are nice in that they are not gaggingly sweet as most other flavored yogurts tend to be.

That's because the English don't like to acknowledge the Welsh!

Alternately

Chobani Greek (original plain non fat) is :

120 cal ,9g carb (6 sugar), 0g fat, 22g , Protein per 1 cup serving (227g)

add your own sugar free flavors (torani syrups, various Water flavorers or just fresh fruit)

The Icelandic Provisions is flavored - if I'm home I use unflavored and add my own what-not, but for something so portable and flavorful, I'm happy to indulge!

Fage (pronounced: fa-yeh!) 0% plain Greek yogurt is what I used in my morning smoothies, although I only use 1/4 cup instead of a full serving of 1 cup. Here is a screen shot of the nutrition information. I also eat it with sliced fresh strawberries and blueberries, and only 1/2 cup of yogurt.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
