Thoughts on air fried sweet potatoes? Is this "healthy"?

Recommended Posts

I'm not losing I'm maintaining and trying to add on muscle mass. And eat very little carbs (which hurts my workouts).

I love sweet potatoes though, and know they're pretty healthy. The easiest way I've found to cook them is slice them up (usually 2 small ones) and spray them with Pam for like 2 to 3 seconds (I know it says calorie free, but it's still oil) then toss them in an airfryer

I estimate this comes to somewhere between 25 to 50 calories of oil. (very likely on the lower end of that calculation)

But would you consider this a fairly healthy source of carbohydrates, or am I basically justifying to myself a way to eat French fries?

If its not constant, sure but if its all the time... There are better/other carb laden vegetables you could have.

But enjoy!

You're maintaining, it is natural and non processed, and you enjoy it. I don't see anything wrong with any of that!

I personally think sweet potatoes are healthy.

That's a question only you can answer.

Well I mean there's surely a scientific basis of whether sweet potatoes are healthy or not. Is it clear, not really...

The general gist I'm getting is they're fairly good for you, but I would be better off boiling them rather than baking/air frying them.

I'm contemplating boiling then air frying them to see how this turns out

If a food is considered "healthy" or not depends on the dietary religion one if following.

Which is rather unfortunate because religion is a bunch of made up mumbo Jumbo. And it's highly unfortunate for nutrition to be so subjective. I mean there's plenty of black and white when it comes to nutrition, but that gray area...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
