Just don’t care about Sweets and Chocolate anymore.

Recommended Posts

I’m 4 weeks post-op and sweets and chocolate which were my goto in the past just are not appealing any more. I don’t crave them and I can only take 1 bite of sugar free puddings or any thing like that. I know that your taste can change after surgery, anyone else feel this way. It’s actually a good thing for me, I hope it stays this way I’ve had a really bad relation ship with these foods in the past.

This is one of the wonderful temporary effects of the surgery that allow us to lose weight. Keeping it 💯, it won't last. Take advantage of this magical time to cement good habits in order to lose all your excess weight and more importantly, keep it off.

Protip: The longer you stay away from sugar and the less you eat of it, the less you will crave it.

same here. I think it comes from all the Protein Shakes you drink during your liquid phases. You couldn't pay me to drink a milky sweet Protein Drink right now. I am only three weeks out. Having to find alternate ways of getting my Protein in.

Lol. I never went through this. At my three month check in, I had to admit to my nutritionist that I was eating dark chocolate every day.

It's true I lost my sweet tooth for a while and I have always been a dessert lover. Now cake, doughnuts, bread, all those sorts of things feel icky, like they're all balled up inside, so I rarely eat them. Crunchy sweets, like crisp Cookies, and toast go down much better. For some reason, I have completely lost interest in ice cream, but chocolate candy, no problem.

Sounds like your taste buds really have altered, wonder if it will be permanent,or just a passiing thing?

I'm almost four months post-op and still didn't have not one bite of chocolate, ice cream or any sugary food and they certainly were my go to food in the past. I don't have major cravings, more like some nostalgic feelings sometimes, but I just know how addictive these things are and how much damage they've already made and I refuse to give in. I was just really mentally prepared to let sugar go from my life and my new sleeve made physical process go smoother, but the major shift happened in my mind.

I was told my taste buds might change. It didn’t happen. I was also worried because some people can’t tolerate spicy food afterwards. I like exactly the same foods I ate before. I just have to stop myself from eating most of them. I can’t stop the chocolate though.

My family cannot believe I’ve lost 150 pounds /70kg + and eaten dark chocolate every single day.

I made a vow to myself to not eat any of the following as they were my downfall in the past and I haven't yet...

chocolate

Biscuits

Cakes/ pastrys

Pies/sausage rolls etc

Its not hard to do either as like others, my taste buds have totally changed. The only regret I have is that tea doesn't taste the same which is a shame as I loved a good cuppa.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
