So 2 of my 6 incisions are infected. Went to dr. Today he debried one and it has to be packed and covered to heal. Didn't hurt. Just started looking bad yesterday. He also put me on Keflex. Kind of gross. I am going to have my husband help me.

Just curious, what did they do to close the incisions the first time? I had the silly little bandages when I had the lap band, and one of the incisions looked pretty bad, might have even got infected. This time? They used a product called derma-bond. It's basically glue. It has worked amazingly well. I've had scrapes that looked worse than these.

Sorry to hear about the infection, but I would imagine you'll feel a bit better once you get enough Keflex in your system. I can only imagine how smells and food tastes now...

Wow. That's pretty unusual for your incisions to become infected. And two of them?! Good thing you didn't ignore them. What did the doctor say? Or did he just write a prescription and didn't say much?

Should have at least uttered,a heartfelt OOPS but I bet he just scribbled out a scrip. And truly Keflex💊 tastes like mold smells. Didn't say it doesn't work, just that's what it always reminded me of!

They used the superglue stuff. The other 4 look fine. One on the infected ones just looks like it has a scab and my skin is red around it. The bad one had yellow on it and started to pull apart. My skin also red and itchy around it. Surgeon just cut out tissue on bad one. It was numb. I didn't feel anything. Hopefully will get under control. I'll have hubby take a pic when he changes the bandage later.

I have one that the surgical glue came off of and its not looking great. It looked more like a hole where the other ones were closed and it was weepy a lil and itchy. The rest look fine. I called my surgeons office to let them know and went to my primary care physician (she's closer). She gave me a script for Doxycycline which is making me throw up half the time. Told me to keep washing it with soap and Water. I go back to my Dr. Monday so they can look at it. The antibiotic seems to be helping. If it's not getting better I go back to my surgeons office on Weds.

Good Luck!

The hospital told me to shower the night before and morning oh my surgery with antibacterial soap. I kept using it post op as well....I figured I already have it, might as well use it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
