on my way to a new me 9 Posted August 10, 2018 This sounds awful but I thought I had gas and it wound up being diarrhea, I am 4 days post op??I thought it might be dumping syndrome but I have none of the other symptoms. I did start with my Protein Powder and Water shake. other than that Clear Liquids , water ice and Jello.

Diarrhea post op is pretty common. You'll see and hear the "never trust a fart" phrase a lot. James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 10, 2018 Right after my surgery I became lactose intolerant. Within minutes of consuming milk or other diary products, my stomach became upset and then there was a quick trip to the bathroom with diarrhea. Some Protein Shakes contain lactose. Anyways this condition went away in around 2 months time.
J_Mkay 17 Posted August 10, 2018 I'm 5 weeks out and still have diarrhea. I had hernia repair and gall bladder removal at the same time, so they told me that the added trauma of having all that done can have an impact on that. They weren't too concerned as long as I am getting in my fluids. The doctor told me to try to avoid dairy for a while so I'm trying that. Many of Protein powders/shakes have lactose so try to find some that are lactose free and see if that helps you. Syntrax Nectar Protein Powder is lactose free and they taste pretty good. Add a packet of crystal light for a little more flavor. I have the strawberry kiwi and add a strawberry lemonade crystal light and it helps. Hope you feel better soon. Screwballski 540 Posted August 10, 2018 I’ll tell you my standard answer. It’s worked for several of us. Try switching over to plant based Protein to see if it clears up the problem. Any vegan protein will do. I chose pea based and have stuck with it. (I’m almost 3 month’s post op.). It solved my problem within hours. You can get plant based shakes at Walmart right away. I order my pea based shakes from Amazon. Took me more than 9 days, several Doctors visits and all sorts of testing before I thought to ask anyone here about the problem. This is the answer I got. It worked like a charm. I hope this works for you!
Screwballski 540 Posted August 10, 2018 NOTE: I’m still very sensitive to the whey shakes, however, I can now tolerate dairy products like cheese. It’s freaky. I can eat whey Protein Bars now, too. But whey shakes still send my system over the edge.
KCgirl061 1,532 Posted August 10, 2018 I'm at that stage where I don't trust my farts. I'm 4 days postop but I'm also taking Miralax daily to avoid Constipation
