Nov. 9 - THE BIG DAY

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I posted somewhere else on the forum and someone was nice enough to direct me over here. I'm having surgery on Friday Nov. 9 by Dr. Felix Spiegel at UGH. I'm excited:whoo: and petrified:omg:at the same time. I believe I'll do well and definately will be giving it all I've got.

Thanks in advance for any words of encouragement.

:help:Wow I never thought it would be this bad. I know I'm just 1 day post op but I am absolutely miserable. The gas pains or almost unbearable. I've walked around the block twice with my DH and I'm taking GasX and Tylenol liquid every 4 hrs. but it seems nothing is helping. Geez please someone tell me this gets better. I keep thinking what have I done, what have I done:omg::omg: On top of the crappy feeling, I'm hungry I've had a couple of Jello cups, cranberry juice and 2 sips of chicken broth. I tried a bit of slim fast but it seemed to make my already bloated and tight stomach double in size. Oh geez, what am I gonna do:faint:

I'm so sorry the pain is so bad. Do you have something stronger than Tylenol to take for the pain? If you do, take it.

I hope the pain is better very soon.

Diva - Sorry to hear about your pain. Maybe you should call the doctor and see if they can give you something stonger. Have you tried the heating pad. It really helped with some of my discomfort.

Hello Everyone!!!

I took my Vicodin and I'm like a new woman:bounce: I was hesitant because years ago I thought I had a reaction to it, well apparantly my memory is faulty. I can't believe the difference, thanks so much for your responses. I feel like I'm back on track now. Size 10 you can run but you can't hide, I'm coming for you!!!!:whoo:

Hey Diva! Bust out your heating pad, too. I had my surgery on the 9th and SWEET LORD my shoulder's been killing me!! It's the referred pain caused by the gas that's lingering in my abdomen. Whatever, man!! It HURTS!! The heating pad really, REALLY helps though. I kind of wrap it up over my left shoulder and keep it there for 20-30 minutes. It makes a HUGE difference. Also, if you feel up to it, take a shower. That really helped to calm a lot of the gas pain and discomfort.

Keep taking your vicodin on a regular basis, not just when you feel pain. Take it every 4-6 hours so that you're covering yourself for the anticipated pain to come. It really makes a difference.

I hope your recovery continues to get better. We'll be here for you!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
