HEY EVERYONE.... i have also had a couple of food being stuck incidents...i remember asking the nurse pre-band "how will i know if something gets stuck? ....now i realize what a stupid question that was....has anyone tried chewing papaya enzyme tablets...they have helped tremendously when something seems stuck...

There is alot to learn. I didn't think it would be a big deal. But the way I eat not so much what is the hardest for me. To eat slow, to chew- as soon as I get my plate of food, I forget and start to eat normally. Then I feel the lump so I tell myself slow down for pete's sake, chew darn it. I hope soon it will be second nature- but for now... 49 years of habit to wipe out.

abckids - I also am having trouble with bread. I made some egg salad one day for lunch and thought I would try some whole grain bread. Had 3 bites and was miserable. I'm certainly not ready to try that again. I've been sticking mainly with soft foods, oatmeal, eggs, tuna salad, cottage cheese, and so forth, but one night I did try steak. Just a little and it was cut very thin. It was great and I didn't have any trouble. I realy like red meat so was pleased that I didn't have any trouble, but am trying to focus more on chicken and tuna. It'll be interesting to see how thanksgiving goes. I'm hoping that I can eat a little dressing and some turkey without any problems. I've been really tempted with candy and chips, but so far have held strong. We still have some leftover Halloween candy and my teenagers love chips. I keep trying to tempt them with fruit, but not having much luck with that.

Hope things go well with your eating. Good Luck.

I am thinking that when I get my fill, I will be stopping bread again. I am weak, and have a salad sandwich most days. I am eating "sensibly" for the first time in years, which does give me a sense of control I have not had in years also.

Filled People - can you eat most fresh salad vegetables?? (as opposed to potato and macaroni)

I have 3 ccs in my 14 cc band and yes, I am able to eat salad. I've also had london broil and chicken parm. I have not tried to eat bread, but I have had stuffed breads from the italian pork store (one stuffed with broccoli and meats and the other with broccoli rabe and sausage). I did get stuck with the broccoli and meat one, but that was because I was hungry and took too big of a bite and did not chew well enough. It was my own fault for not paying attention.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
