Hello,

I have my first meeting tomorrow night with Fresh Start Bariatrics at Riverside. The meeting is with Dr. Stephan Myers. I don't know what to think. What do they do in a big meeting like this? I have lost my weight and just put is right back on. It has been nothing but a roller coaster for me all of my adult years.

I just turned 32 last friday and I am going to do something for my self this year. I want to do this. I am 5'2 and 251 lbs. I have never been so heavy in all of my life. I don't feel well at all. I sleep a lot during the day and my father in law always makes fun of my weight. Yes, I am the only person with this much weight in his family. I hate having to do things with his family. My husband and I have a very good marriage and he says forget it and not worry about it. How can you not.

My husband is going with me to this meeting. It is hard to take time off of work. He owns a dairy farm. Of course that is a 24/7 job. We have been plaining thing for sometime. I just hope this is right for me. I am a stay at home mommy. My daughter and my husband are my life. I want to be able to keep up with my 2 year old.

I also breed dogs. I sometimes help out on the farm when I feel good and I have to keep our rentals in line. Not an easy job. I do most of it myself. I also do some work on the internet.

I guess that I am just very shy. I hope this is a good thing. I don't know.

Has anyone been banded by Dr. Myers, and if so how do you like him?

Thanks,

Flashkatt

I'm in the process of getting banded at Riverside, the seminar is great they give you lots of information (I've been twice). It can run long and they cover both bypass and lap-band, but Dr Myers will answer all your questions. Also you can start the process at the meeting, you have the option of filling out paper work and giving them your insurance information. They will check with your insurance and let you know what is cover and all that stuff.

There is also a support group meeting next Tuesday for Riverside, it's for banded and pre-banded folks might be good to go to that and meet people and ask some questions. Both my wife and I are looking at getting banded at Riverside.

Hi Flashkat!

You'll love Dr. Myers. He will be the gentleman in the bow tie handing out waters :-) He makes a point of meeting each of the people in the meeting and is just so nice. You'll feel right at ease.

Hunter and I were at the same seminar/meeting and even though we didn't meet there, we've struck up quite a friendship. We're both at the same stage in the process right now and it's been great to have someone to talk to that's going through the same things. We'll be here for you if you decide to go with Dr. Myers (or any other program for that matter) so feel free to ask any questions you might have.

As Hunter mentioned there is a support group meeting next Tuesday at 6:30. We're both planning on attending and if you decide to go let us know so we can meet up with you. You can get more information tonight about it, or feel free to private message me for the details.

Good luck tonight! Don't forget to take your insurance card with you if you think you'll be interested in getting the ball rolling as they'll have someone there to photo copy it for you when you hand in your initial paperwork. It's really a painless process!

I look forward to hearing more from you!

HI,

I won't be able to go to the support group. I live in wooster, ohio. It is kinda of a drive for me. I will be seeing doc. Myers in Mansfield. He is going to be approved by my insurance after the first of the year. I know that the first of the year is not that far away. What do you have to do in the process before getting the sugery done? Was it kinda of crazy to do. Are you getting the lap band? I do know he offers other sugeries too. I have to do some more studying about this. I think this is what I want. I am very scard about this whole thing. I am sure that it will work out just fine. My husband is a good guy he is a big support. I don't think that I could do this without him.

Thanks,

Hilary

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
