Hello,
I am really concerned about hairloss after surgery. I already have thin hair as it is. I think this might take an emotional/mental toll on me.
Did you u experience hairloss ?
Was it very noticeable? How long did it last
What did u take?
Did you wear a wig?

Thank you <3

Started 4 months after surgery, only noticeable to me and hairdresser, continued for around a month. Shedding like crazy, in and out of shower. Was on around 800 cals per day, no pre-op diet, so there goes the “it’s because of starvation” theory. Took Biotin and prenatal Multivitamins, can’t say it had much impact either way. Hit my Protein goals. Cut off around a foot of hair last week just to change things up and have no complaints about it.

You’ll likely have Hair loss, and I know mine was pretty minimal (relatively thick hair to start) but even when it was coming out in hunks I didn’t regret surgery. If you’re attached to a particular hairstyle then it might be harder to shake the feeling that your thinning is noticeable, because you’ll be able to see the before-and-after difference. I’d actually suggest everyone prep for a fun new shorter haircut because the different style prevents you from playing “spot the difference” when staring in the mirror. It’s ALL different at that point.

It can feel like a reason to not get surgery, but it isn't - it grows back. Mine started thinning prior to surgery just because of aging, and I had/have Hair loss. I got a perm before surgery - it helps plump it up, plus volumizing mousse, and a little shorter cut. New hairs are coming in around the hairline and it will take awhile to grow out but holy chit - I wear size 10 jeans and shouted it out in Macy's dressing room yesterday - how cool is that!

I lost hair for about 2 months, from 3 months to 5 months post op, approximately. I lost a lot and I'll admit it freaked me out. Total volume loss is probably 33%-50%, based upon the thickness of my pony tail.

But, I still have absolutely no regrets! My Hair loss is only noticeable at my temples and hair line. If my hair is down, no one can tell at all.

The hair loss, as much as it sucked, is absolutely nothing compared to how fantastic I feel and look! Seriously, size 10-12 pants, size medium shirts, a little hair loss is a small price to pay.

Please research Telogen Effluvium and WLS for a full understanding of what to expect. Also your experience will vary wildly and unpredictably. I had mild Hair loss compared to most but whether it was prayer, genetics or supplementation (or everything) is up in the air.

I am just about 4 months postoperative and definitely shedding more, but I really think it's one of those things that we personally notice, but hardly anyone else does (for most people anyhow). I am assuming it will continue for another month, as months 3-5 seem to be pretty common. I have really fine and thin hair hair, and definitely not loosing clumps like I was afraid of.

Remember the title here is Hair loss with VSG not Hairless with VSG-- you gotta believe it's going to level off soon, you'll get chick fuzz and then your hair is gonna re-sprout and th8cken up again.😛

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
