Food Funerals?~ protein shake recommendations

Recommended Posts

I getting pumped! I start my pre op diet next week and I see/heat that people having food funerals before they start. I’m not sure about this really. I feel that The term “food funeral” puts a negative outlook on the future you have with your weight loss surgery tool but at the same time I might not get the chance to eat the things I think I love after my life style change. All I know is that I have this last week to try new things I would never try and give new foods a chance before turning my nose. I’m taking this time not only to start letting go but also to find new healthy foods to love. 💕
I would love some help doing this, let me know what you guys like, I need to find a good Protein Shake and any other recommendation you have for the pre op diet and for the first 2 stages post op.

Good luck with your coming surgery!

My advice on stages 1 and 2 is stock up on variety. Different types/flavors of shakes (Premier Protein are my fave), Decaf coffee/tea if you drink them, several different broths, a few different flavorings for Water, some skim or low-fat milk, sugar-free Jello, etc. You are going to get bored, believe me. This will enable you to mix it up some.

Well, I'm a girl on a budget (read working and food stamps). I can't afford the Protein Shakes they offer. My surgery date has not been set yet, but when they told me i'd be drinking these shakes forever,I came up with a plan. I bought the little blender that turns into a cup. Then I bought a giant container of muscle milk (food stamp eligible) and I'm good to go. Now I have to see if I can pay for the Vitamins with food stamps. I'll probably need a prescription. But I won't give up figuring out how to pay for these items. I mean if I can't afford it, then why bother having the surgery. Good luck!

Check with your doctor's office and social service agencies I'm sure something can be worked out.I know one of the Bari-pals said she got lactose intolerant and donated the ones she couldn't use, back to her program so someone else could use them.Maybe something like that will work out for you.🍶😝

I am having a “ Say Good-Bye to my Fat Ass” party this weekend. My friends and family that support my decision are going to join me and we are going to Celebrate a little different. We are only going to have 2 of my favorite dish’s, but they are all bringing food to donate to the food pantry of my choice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
