Has anyone experienced severe left shoulder/collar bone pain? Had revision from VSG to bypass 7-30. Noticed pain right away, chalked it up to positioning during surgery & gas. Progressively getting worse. It goes then comes with a vengeance. Have no trouble passing gas or BM. Have tried heat, cold, medicated rubs, muscle relaxers & massage. I feel great other than this pain.

I'd chalk it up to surgical pains still, being only 8 days out of surgery and all, I had some odd pains here and there that took a few weeks to clear up. Dealing with pectoral/clavicle connection area pain right as well as some back pain where the lat and trap overlap. You are going to have some pains from surgery, then some pains from the weight loss as the visceral fat starts to reduce and things get a bit sloppy / loose around the connective tissues and muscles, at least until you can work them out and tighten them back up. if it's persistent and doesn't come and go with eating/drinking, I wouldn't worry too much about it right now.

Have you talked with the surgeon's team? Pain in that area could be from a leak, although that's not terribly likely since you're not running a fever or feeling ill, otherwise. Hope you feel better soon.

This is in no way meant to alarm you. I'm just stating what happened to me...

Back in 2004, I started having pains similar to what you are describing. It radiated from my collar bone into my neck. I went to the doctor and he sent me to a specialist, who after some tests, found a small pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in my left lung. I was put on a blood thinner for six months. After the six months, they checked again and it had dissipated by itself.

My bariatric surgeon has told me that pulmonary embolisms are a complication and that is why he will give the anti-blood clot medicine during my hospital stay and a prescription for when I go home. (I did not tell him that I had had one previously)

Please call your doctor...

Thank you for responding. I didn't think of a clot. I did call the surgeon's office yesterday. The nurse spoke to the PA who didn't seem concerned. Was told pain possibly due to positioning during surgery. Use heat & if not better the see someone. I kid you not!!! I was so mad. I've tried ice, heat, muscle relaxers and massage. Thankfully it now seems to be passing.

Being told to take a "chill pill" and relax. does help, does it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
