Hi all: I'm 4 days post-op and the incisions are bothering me more than I'd anticipated, as I think I have a pretty high pain tolerance. The one incision which was closest to the surgeon (where I'm assuming she did most of the poking and proding) is really bruised, swollen, and painful. The other incisions I barely notice. (except for the creepy one where the drain was inserted!)

How long did it take for your pain to go away from Laparoscopic surgery? Am I near the end, or should I invest in an Abdominal binder? Putting pressure on the spot seems to help, but I can't do that on my own all day. I'd rather not spend more money if I don't need to, but I'd also like to not hurt. I don't want to buy this and then the pain be gone by the time it is delivered.

Any advice?

Im 6 days post op and Im wearing mine everywhere. To bed, when I wake up, I literally have it on at all times. My left side is the main side the work was done on and I can tell a major difference in pain when I don't have it on. Ive linked this previous but this is one I bought, LOVE IT! Its thicker in width and length so it covers the entire area pretty well. Several sizes.

My incision pain went away around 4.5 weeks. The largest incision where the surgeon worked from was the one that lasted so long; like yours.

i didn’t use a binder. But if you feel like it’ll help you, go for it

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
