Recommended Posts

HI all ! I am 6 days post op and I'm having a hard time with eating or drinking because I feel like everything just sits right on my chest can anyone tell me if this is normal and is this also something that i will have to deal with long term or maybe just because I'm so fresh with the surgery

Stop eating. You should be on a clear liquid diet anyway. You can go on full liquids after 7 days.

But if you need something, it needs to be something like yogurt or pudding. I'm 6-7 weeks out and I still can't eat anything really hard without being uncomfortable. An example would be a hot dog. I tried to eat one and was miserable because it was too hard. And I chewed that sucker forever. Same with an order of pulled pork nachos. I had to throw them out.

To be honest, the most delicious thing I had to eat when I was 6 days out was Herb Ox chicken broth. It was so salty and delicious it was like a bag of Doritos.

I have been having the foamy/slime vomit thing happen to me. It's sucks. I at a vegetable omelette which I've had several times in two weeks. However today was not the day ...I started vomiting slime and was sick for like 4 hours ...I took a rest and decided to drink Water but even the water felt stuck and I started the slime all over again. I dnt know what I'm doing wrong.

You’re eating too big a bite, or not chewing it enough, or eating too fast. Stick to VERY small bites that you masticate to consistency of applesauce.

I will be more mindful.. it's really something...and I'm breaking old habits everyday.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
