Cheeseburger= 20 minutes, WOW!

Recommended Posts

What a difference the band makes! Now, my second week after my first fill, I am noticing how significant restriction is. I used to be able to gulp down a cheeseburger, (or four), in 10-15 minutes.:hungry: Now, I take a bite, and if I don't chew really good, I can only take about two bites, and I have to stop. If I eat slowly, and chew really well, I can eat one, in about 20-30 minutes, and I am very content. Its really awesome. :bounce: Except when I forget, and eat too quickly, then I get that knot in my chest. Takes a little bit, 5-10 minutes for it to pass. So far, I have only had one 'bad' incident. I tried eating some baby carrotts, raw, and they did not want to go down. They got stuck, and eventually forced me to bring 'em back up. Thats definitely something to avoid. :) Other then my poor little brain trying to catch up to the new process, which is actually no little thing, I think the band is a great tool! Any other happy campers?:eyebrows:

Hey, good job.

I can't eat burgers...the bun is my problem and once I slimed up the pickle. Oh well.

Went to Cracker Barrel tonight and went to the bathroom 3 x to expel the food. I still can't get the hang of it. I think I'd be better with Portion Control rather than trying to slow my eating. I think after 3 bites, I'm fine and w/ the 4th...well, bathroom time.

Cheeseburger? What's that? I can't handle eating that anymore. Last time I tried, it wasn't too much fun. I have never PB'd, but I don't want to get to that point either (if I can help it). Restriction is a great thing, isn't it???? Good luck!

All too often "Bag O'Cheeseburgers" was a major part of my preBand menu.

Old cheeseburgers are a major part of the wad of flesh remaining hanging from from the drooping flesh sagging from my bones.

For the first time in memory, I have no interest in cheeseburgers. I have no desire for cheeseburgers. I don't even have fond memories of cheeseburgers.

And yes I am a happy camper.

I couldn't agree more Jack !

I gave up red meat after surgery. My surgery was in March, and late April was DH's bday. He wanted Fuddrucker's. I ordered a small cheeseburger, and that was the first time I realized what a horrible texture ground beef has. Yuck! Plus, no matter how well I chewed, I couldn't gooify it. The closest I could come was tiny beads of what felt like gristle. That whole experience really turned me off to red meat.

A few weeks later I tried a piece of steak. Man, pre-op I used to love me a nice piece of aged sirloin, rare enough that it was bloody and jiggly in the middle. I tried a bite post-op, and I it just took one bite to decide that the amount of chewing & texture wasn't worth it.

Now I'm content to order chicken and smell DH's amazingly good looking steak. :)

Happy Camper here too... I would eat the meat and cheese from the hamburger but not the bun - don't want the calories or to get filled up on bread which has no nurtional value.

I still love my beef - hamburger - steak (love it like you used to wheestin)- but eat red meat only once a week - eat mostly fish and a little chicken...

I love my red meant, and fully came to the conclusion that I may not be able to tolerate it at all after surgery.

Here I am months after surgery and red meat gives me NO problem - so long as I chew it properly. Just last Saturday I had a filet mignon (well, 1/3 of it). My plan for this Friday night is cheeseburgers. I buy them frozen at Aldi and they're delicious. Granted; I no longer do the bun, b/c of it getting gummed up. chicken on the other hand...I have to be very, very careful with. That gives me a problem, unless I drown in in gravy - and then what is the point? Eck.

MY OWN POINT to my comment was: I've been told that I should eat for 20 minutes, then stop. If I've not eaten all my food - so be it. Within 20 - 30 minutes of eating the band begins to empty. Grazing is the enemy. Last night I had a grilled chicken caesar salad. I found myself eating for 45 minutes! Why? So I could eat more. No way...bad habit to get into. I'm much better off giving myself the 20 minutes. Doesn't sound like a long enough time...but trust me - it is.

I can eat red meat fine (steak, chopped burger meat), but I can't eat a lot, thick portions, over cooked (has to be a little bloody), and no way no how on a bun. I don't have any desire for the standard cheeseburger anymore.. hoorah! I do still like a small ground beef patty with swiss and mushrooms on top.

Isn't a small ground beef patty still a burger? ;)

I enjoy my burgers with different things on it; cheese, mushrooms, onions, peppers, salsa, hummus...you name it. It's an easy way for me to get in my Protein. Turkey burgers rate up there, too!

Well that's why I think it depends on what the OP was talking about.

Burger to me= On a bun

Ground Beef= Not on a bun

I like ground beef with fixings on it ;)

Ahhhhh, clarity. Makes sense. Thanks!

To me, still a cheeseburger.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
