How often do you weigh yourself?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon recommended once per week, and for my sanity it sounds like a good suggestion - a good way to try to focus on weekly trends rather than obsessing about every small fluctuation. I’m closing in on one week post-op, so the temptation to constantly weigh myself is DEFINITELY there!

I’m wondering how often you weigh yourself, what helps you resist the urge to get on the scale daily or if you’ve found benefits from weighing in daily what are they?

Thanks in advance!

Every morning, naked and after using the bathroom. I feel it helps me stay on track.

Every morning but only track it 1-2 times per week (tues and sat). If there isn’t a loss on tracking days I don’t track. (Haven’t had any gains).

I find benefit to keeping myself accountable and on track- and I’d rather know ASAP if things are not moving in the right direction.

Weighing doesn’t really upset me but if it did I’d likely put the scale somewhere and only take it out on tracking day(s).

I feel like right now I'm somewhere between every day and every hour, thanks for all of your answers! I like to weigh myself every morning/every other morning naked before getting in the shower, but my surgeon was pretty adamant about only weighing in once per week so I wanted to ask. I have a fitbit scale that automatically tracks my weight each time I step on it, otherwise I really like the idea of letting myself weigh in as frequently as I'd like but only "counting" once a week to get the trend rather than all the fluctuation.

It's reassuring to know that weighing as regularly as I'd like to hasn't created anxiety and stress for you all! I'm leaning toward continuing with my habit and just taking a step back if I do find myself overly fixated!

I weigh daily. I only log a loss. I feel it helps me recognize trends and not obsess so much when I’m a few ounces more today than yesterday. I fluctuated with 3lbs during my first stall. Weighing daily helped me see it was just moving here and there and then took off again.

This is me. I would go insane if I didn’t weigh myself every morning

Same here, every morning that I am home.

I log everyday, loss or gain.

BUT, I do not stress when I gain or go into a stall.

I weight once a week which I guess is not normal ... but I will also weight again sometimes if I have success in the bathroom and want to see if that made an impact. I also take a selfie on weigh in days so that I might eventually look back on the weekly selfies and see myself changing (?) I don't know I don't notice a difference in the selfies but I do on the scale...

For me once a week I take a picture of the scales every Monday. Lately I’ve broken that, I’m 5 days post and hop on the scale daily. Scale has dropped everyday. Bad habit I know.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
