Baking with Protein supplements

Recommended Posts

Been wondering the same. Been waiting to grab another packet of flavorless Protein Powder but not sure if it will ruin whatever I try to make. Protein Treats on youtube makes a powder that she says is the only one made for baking (might have been an old video I saw) but she seams to much like an infomercial actress. Makes me wonder if it is legit or she's FOS?

Yeah, I've tried a couple of recipes and they came out dreadful - very dry. Like chewing on a dry sponge.

I have also tried. I agree with orchids&dragons, the 4 recipes I tried were awful, mine seemed to fall apart and it was dense. I have even tried a recipe my NUT gave me, i followed the directions to a T and It still bad.

Have you tried any of the recipes on Pinterest? I saw a few yummies, but since I'm not at that stage I haven't tried.

I have made Keto friendly treats in the past which all came out good.

Here is a link to the one I mentioned in my above post.

https://nutracelle.com/collections/nutracelle-products/products/natural-nutralean-prebiotic-protein-for-baking

It is really expensive though. But if your only using it for cooking it might last and be worth the price? There are also flavored powders, I guess for baking Desserts.

Wow, that is expensive! Not sure I'm willing to shell out $61 for a product I may not like. I read the bad reviews and was impressed to see that someone responded to every one of them.

I've used this recipe a few times, and varied up the chocolate Protein powder. Always turns out great.

Also, I've made this one with unflavored protein powder, usually Isopure.

Thanks, Ash! For the brownie link, did you try the Protein powder they recommended? Which other brands do you use?

I'll be honest I don't know, I always buy the single serve ones at the grocery store, because its pretty much the only times I even use Protein powder. I've used probably 3-4 different brands and they all worked perfectly. I can look tonight to see if I still have one in the cupboard and let you know.

Thanks! I've never bought the single servings, but it would be a good way to try something out.

Question. When you made the meals that came out bad did you substitute something with the Protein powder or just add it?

The ones that didn't work for me were recipes that called for Protein powder, but didn't specify the brand. There's a lot of difference, including the size of the scoop. Most recipes just say "1 scoop", but not how many grams.

Made this recipe today.

http://www.everylastbite.com/2017/05/30/spicy-butternut-squash-tots/

Changed it up bit. Used sweet potato instead of squash and a bit different on the spices. Added a full scoop of Isopure flavorless Protein powder and they came out great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
