Hi All! I passed my psych eval! It was a lot more in depth than I expected. I'm glad it's over!

He askied about:

Drinking. They want to make sure that you don't over indulge regularly because you shouldn't drink for 6-12 months after surgery.

Why did I decide I wanted the surgery. Have I tried to lose weight other ways first.

Support system: Who did I tell? What was their reaction? Do I have anybody in my life who I think will be jealous after surgery.

My history of being overweight. Was an overweight child/young adult? Family history of obesity?

My childhood- what was it like? My relationship with my mother/father/siblings. My relationship in my currently family- husband kids.

If I had a history of depression or eating disorders. (lots of questions about that)

My relationship w food. Do I bing eat? Emotional eating.

What exercise I get now, and what my plans are after surgery.

There were also questions about how I sleep.

I hope this helps.

Great! Thanks for the update!! My evaluator is herself a bariatric surgery recipient so that puts me at ease. It’s so weird to me that so far the judgment that I perceived would happen hasn’t happened.

That being said - I’m super private person. I haven’t even told my husband yet. If I didn’t have to tell anyone I wouldn’t. Ugh!

How long was yours? She said it is 2 hours.

Mine was an hour.

When do you plan to tell your hubs? When I told mine, I introduced it by saying "Hey, can we talk? I've been thinking about WLS for a long time and I think I would like to do it. How would you feel about that?"

He was amazing.

Why haven't you brought it up? Are you scared of what he would say?

Oh I think he’ll be supportive. It’s my own mental hang-ups. He’s always been normal weight so he doesn’t “get” the struggle. Plus it feels like failure to me. That I couldn’t do it myself and had to resort to surgical help. I just don’t like talking about it. I’m going to have to bring it up soon. I have a pre-op EGD that I’ll need a ride home from. Lol!!!

Thanks for taking the time out to share! That's extremely helpful. I had been wondering about the eval; mine is Tuesday. I am excited to have it done and move on. Thanks again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
