Feel like I should have lost more weight by now

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I was 248 the day I walked into surgeons office. Had sleeve July 10th. Now 215. I feel like I should have lost more by now. Doing everything I’m told to do except have been limited to mostly walking as my form of exercise. I’m very sore and still get periods of exhaustion but it’s getting better. I know slow and steady wins the race but I feel like I should have lost more by now.

Your body dictates exactly how much you lose, no way around it. You can *help* by:

Hydrating properly

Taking Vitamins, minerals and Fiber

Getting adequate Protein

Exercising a little

Following your plan closely

Stressing less

Safe Journey!!!

"Plateaus happen, bariatric surgery or no bariatric surgery.

Bariatric patients see dramatic weight loss after surgery, with most of the progress coming in the first six months to a year after the procedure. Not all of that decrease is fat. Some of its muscle, and losing muscle, unfortunately, decreases the rate at which you burn energy, in turn slowing fat loss.

And, as you lose weight, your body requires less energy to sustain itself. Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is going to be a lot different at 250 pounds than it was at 300 or 350. That means slower weight loss, too."

1. Re-commit to tracking your food

2. Change up your exercise routine.

3. Change up your diet.

4. Get enough sleep.< /span>-_-

I started at 245 and am down to 212 -- the same rate of loss as you. I think we've done pretty darn good myself! Keep doing what you're doing and you'll get there. <3

Thatch! How are you? I’m going to keep sticking with the plan and I’ll reach my goal. I just see some people on here losing so much faster. I desperately want to get below 200.

I'm doing great. Finally got my Water intake sorted and I'm up to walking an hour a day. I think the reason we're not seeing faster results is that we started at a relatively low weight to begin with. It's going to be slower for us, but we'll get there. How are you feeling otherwise?

Doing well. Water intake is good. I agree. We started at a lower weight. Glad you’re doing well. Keep in touch.

Thatch-what does a typical day look like for you intake wise between food and Fluid. Are you drinking many shakes?

I think it’s important to have realistic expectations... at your starting weight, 30 lbs in 3 weeks is really rather remarkable.

I don’t think that’s losing too slowly at all.

Add 100lbs to your number and I'm just about the same with loss. Surgery weight was 342lbs and I weighed myself today, I'm 315.4lbs. I don't think I'm losing too slow. Surgery was 7/12 so yesterday was exactly 3 weeks. Keep to it the weight will continue coming off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
