Fitbit challenge group for recent post-op?

Recommended Posts

I’m on my first full day home after surgery (which was 7/30/18). I was wondering if any other Fitbit people would be interested in having me add them on the app and invite to challenges specifically for people who are very recently post-op...I’m thinking people who had surgery in last couple weeks.

Post or PM me your Fitbit email if you’d like me to add you to some daily or weekly challenges!

This sounds nice and all, but just wait until you hit your first stall... or you've been doing everything right but you're not losing as quickly as someone else... or everyone else.

Example: I had my surgery on June 13, 2018. My buddy @AlteredReality had her surgery on June 24, 2018.

So far, and even though I had my surgery several days before AlteredReality did, she's lost 77lbs while I've lost 44lbs. Do I feel like pulling my hair out (I don't need to--- it's already falling out, but I digress...)? Actually, I don't, but it won't help your morale to compare your weight loss with others. There are numerous factors involved in losing weight, even after your surgery.

Maybe you're losing faster, and your other FitBit buddies aren't. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Maybe you're a competitive person. I don't know.

There's a ticker available on this forum that you can use. You can still compare your losses with others, just not directly. True, there won't be all the same bells and whistles but it gets the job done.

Losing weight is hard enough as it is, even under the best of circumstances (ie. weight loss surgery), so why turn it into a competition?

If you're the only one in the race, you will always be the winner!

Fitbit buddies/challenges aren’t for weight loss competition, just for daily and weekly step/movement goals and motivation...I am not and would not measure myself against someone else’s losses.

Thanks! I’m doing pretty well, my biggest complaint is very itchy/bad reaction on skin around the incisions. My body is allergic to everything I guess!

The last couple days I’ve been struggling with some hunger. My post-op plan is VERY strict compared to most of what I see on here so I’m on basically Clear Liquids plus milk and Soup still until 8/20. I definitely have cravings, but mostly only when I see a commercial for pizza or if someone right by me is eating something delicious. Starting to daydream about what I’m going to have for day one of puréeds in less than two weeks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
