I was told that I would have to sip my Water after sleeve surgery, at least 64 ounces a day.

Is sipping water just a temporary thing, or something you have to do from now on?

I drink Decaf coffee, how long does it take to drink a cup of coffee after you have a sleeve?

I drink a lot of water, this sipping thing has got me wondering.

Thanks very much.

After a week or two the swelling goes down and you can drink pretty normally. No big gulps, but normal.

on week 3 post op, sipping isnt that awful, you don't want to stretch sleeve and honestly its still healing. You will feel pressure if you drink or eat too much too soon. Your body will tell you

I'm 7 months out yesterday, and I'm able to drink fine. Just NOT after eating! Learned that the hard way several times. food just washes right back up.

At 9 months post op, I drink normally , I drink coffee or other Hot Drinks at the rate I did prior to surgery. Sometimes I take a little bit longer because I add Protein Shake to the coffee or tea and it takes longer to drink for me vs with regular cream.

You will want to sip! Take one at a time. My surgeon taught me that your sip should be so small that it could rest under your tongue (in that pocket) and you could talk. He even taught me how to sip, hold, breathe all air out and swallow. The pressure pain comes from swallowing air and honestly for me it's just too uncomfortable. I'm six days post OP. And so glad I'm doing these methods because I can honestly tell you Im healing quickly, I haven't thrown up one time and I KNOW the exact amount my body will intake. My body tells me the exact moment between enough and one sip too many. One sip too many and I've got a tight pinch and a lot of pressure. It's insane. Before the pinch you'll feel pressure, that's when I know to stop. Also, each day I can tell that swelling is going down and my body can intake a little more volume at a time (sipping of course). Best of luck! Honestly it's worth the work to be intune with yourself and really change old habits.

This is great advice! I’m going to have to remember that.

Yeah, after a while, you'll be able to drink normally again. You won't be able to chug Water or anything, but you won't have to sip all the time. Every once in a while, I take too big of a drink and it hurts, so just drink normally, when the time comes, and you'll be fine!

I am 15 days post op and have been able to take normal drinks for at least the last week. Fluids have gone down very easily. That was my biggest fear going in to surgery was not being able drink very much. And for the first week I had to take it real slow but then I noticed it started going down very easily. I don’t have to “sip” anymore, and the temperature of the liquid doesn’t make any difference for me. I’m very thankful for this.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
