Hi, I was banded three days ago and am STARVING while on the liquid diet. My stomach growls and hurts so bad I can't even sleep! I have not heard of anyone else complain of hunger during this phase and in fact read several posts that said that after they had surgery they had no hunger at all. What is up, is it normal to be this hungry? I'm paranoid that the band is not on properly. Please advise.

Hi Traveler!

Congratulations on your surgery! I did have some hunger pains but nothing unbearable. Are you getting in enough liquids? Or maybe you're just a really fast healer and your stomach is already feeling close to normal again. Anyway, hope it gets better for you and good luck!

Hi traveler!

I had surgery on Thurs Nov 1st and started feeling hungry on Sunday - my 3rd day post op. Just like you I wondered if my band had slipped or something. But I don't have any pain or vomiting, which I think I would have if my band had slipped. Today the nurse from my surgeons office called to see how I was doing and I told her that I was hungry and she didn't seem concerned. She said the swelling in my stomach must have gone down fast. So you might call your surgeons office, just for some reassurance that being hungry this fast is ok.

Besides all the Water everyday - I'm drinking 3-4 Protein Drinks, plus 2-3 cups of broth or Soup, and 2 cups of SF hot chocolate. I'm hoping when I go on mushies in 8 days 10 hrs and 42 min :biggrin1: I won't be so hungry!

So I plan on drinking everything on the approved list from my surgeon and try to be happy I'm such a fast healer!

You are okay. You can have anything that can fit through a straw. With that being said, creamy Soups really helped me. They kept me full longer and since they had milk they had Protein too. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, I have been drinking 3-4 Protein Shakes, about 4 ounces of juice, 2 liters of Water and coffee (about 4 ounces) I am constantly drinking something. The day of the surgery when I woke up, I was so hungry, my stomach was growling. I am worried that the band is not on right. I can not feel it at all (Some people posted that they could feel it in the beginning) I am not vomiting or in pain and I just burp some after drinking (nothing comes up with the burp.) Do you think I am safe to try some mushie foods? Thanks for all your input!

I think you should follow your surgeons instructions. Did he/she give you a list of foods and tell you how long to be on them? You definitely don't want to risk having complications. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
