Well I guess it’s official. Just checked my chart messages and I have been approved. I am super surprised how quick it was. I was sleeved 6 years ago and have complications. It took only 14 days.

I had it in my mind that picking a date for surgery before getting approved didn’t make it real. Super real now!

I just not sure how I feel about it. When I had the sleeve I was super motivated, studied the material they gave me, dreamed about shopping for new outfits, etc. but because I have barrett's syndrome with abnormal cells in my esophagus, I am just freaked out.

I having really talked to my husband because he’s freaked out to. Don’t want to stress him out as well. Feeling kind of alone for this go around.

Some people with Barrett's Syndrome don't have any signs or symptoms. What about you? I was under the impression that a bypass would actually help someone with Barrett's.

Being freaked out is something many people can relate to. This forum is a good place to vent. Freak on us!

I was recently switched by my surgeon to gastric bypass because she found Barrett's syndrome on my endoscopy. It freaked me out!!! I have not had any significant symptoms - some occassional heartburn but I just attributed it to my crappy diet. Anyway, after peeling myself off the ceiling - I did what I always do and read everything I could get my hands on about it. And, now I feel better. The bypass is a great treatment for it - turns out my highly educated and experienced surgeon was right ;) I'm having surgery on Aug. 15th.

I have Barrett's too and am getting the RNY/GB to fix it. My gastroenterologist, PCP and surgeon all said it was the best way to cure Barrett's. My surgery date is Wednesday, Aug. 1 so I'm busy in the "getting ready to go" mode. More excited than nervous b/c I'm more scared of esophageal cancer. Wish me luck! :)

I had GERD that’s was not controlled with meds. For 5 years, about 3-4 times a night i would be woken up from it. For 3 years, I have been sleeping sitting up and it still happens.

I think because I know how much it’s gonna hurt and the eating part was such a challenge, I am freakin out. I am freaked out because now taking action could lead to cancer.

I should be excited because I know the 40+ I gain will be coming off but I am really scared. When I given the time to think about, I can feel the anxiety come on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
