Cancelled My Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was scheduled for November 9th but had to cancel. My 3 year old son was hospitalized this past weekend. All last week he was rolling around the floor with unexplained abdominal pain. 4 ER visits, 2 Cat Scans, 2 ultra sounds and a 3 day hospital stay later, he was diagnosed with a hematoma on the right psoas muscle. The doctors thought it may have been something worse but he is better now. His condition needs to be checked by CAT scan every month for changes. I did manage to get to the pulmonologists office on Friday and he said my lungs were not in the greatest condition from bronchitis the week before last, and with all that was going on he suggested I cancel. I actually felt I should cancel as well. So, now I must reschedule. I stayed on the pre-op liquid diet for 7 days and lost 10 pounds! So, I'm having a hard time trying to get back into the mindset of having surgery. This past week was such a rollercoaster of emotions and lap band was so far removed from my mind. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Maria

Hope your son is doing better. Congrats on the 10 pound weightloss. That's a great start. I would just concentrate on you and your family right now and the band will be there for you when your ready plus your off to a great start. My thoughts and prayers are with you and hope all is well.

Hugs,

Sherri

Thanks guys for the support. I just finally got up the courage to call the surgeon's office to reschedule and find out what I need to do to get this moving again. The woman handling my surgeon's schedule left early - I have to call tomorrow. I believe my insurance approval is good for 90 days after the original surgery date (Nov. 9). I'm thinking January since my son has some follow up tests in December to track his condition. I'm hoping that I don't have to take all my pre-op tests over again. But, I'll do what I have to do... Just wish I could get my head back in the game again.

Thanks again,

Maria

Everything will be okay. As you already know... as a mother we always put our families first. Theres no way you could of concentrated on yourself worrying about your son. Sometimes we put ourselves last on the list. I guess thats just the nature of being a mom. But as soon as all is well you get back into this game and you do it for you. And only do it when you are ready and comfortable in doing so.

You CAN do it!!!! Thats what we are here for. To get you back on track and be positive for you. So hang in there. All will be well.

i have been there and done with six kids of my own and 5 or them special needs. I had some family drama too the days and weeks before, but i got folks back on track and went thru with my surgery plans. I would get him stable then move onto scheduling.. this is for you and in the long run, he needs you to be there for him...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
