Hi ya. oatmeal is fibre and will cause bloating and feeling of fullness .

Ahhhh. Got it. Thanks.

And if it is undercooked could those fibers get caught in your healing sleeve seem, same reason you can't have seeds and nuts?

Weird. I'm on full fluids and well cooked, fairly loose oatmeal is one of the things I am allowed to eat.

one of oddest things about this journey is the total lack of any standard program.

if you stay around long enough there is nothing you wont see go thru here.

maybe because its new and the science behind it is not well understood even by the doctors that do it.

they know it works but not much has been tested past that point and the science always takes years to sort out.

maybe in the future they will sort out what is a must and what is just a doctor trying to avoid any and all problems with every patient be using broad strokes for his recommendations.

Oatmeal is allowed on some plans at varying stages ( mine was stage 2- introduced during full liquids-purees as a very loose consistency) and sometimes never. Double check with you team to make sure they mean never again or just not at your current stage, either way follow your plan for the best possible outcome.

Safe Journey!

I was allowed to eat blended oatmeal in the pureed stage (stage 2). I put an immersion blender into it and pulsed a couple times. The thing about oatmeal though is that its very high in carbohydrates. Even though I used natural oatmeal and the low sugar prepacked kind I stopped eating it because of the high carb load

Oh okay. All of these things make sense. I’ll avoid it.

I've eaten oatmeal nearly every day since week two after surgery.

100% approved on my plan.

Zero problems.

Avoid it for now if your plan says to do so. In future you may wish to include it if its something you like.

My plan includes moderate carbs, not very low carb as some people are doing post sleeve. I actually include 2/3 of a standard serving of porridge (made from natural rolled oats cooked with water) as my Breakfast for most days, which myfitnesspal tells me is 74 calories, 10.8g carbs. I find it to be a good quick high fibre meal which my tummy is happy with (I cook a batch on the weekend and microwave my serving in the morning).

At 3 months post op my surgeon is happy with my progress and what I'm eating.

Just curious...what did they tell you to eat then for breakfast if not oatmeal?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
