Spouse had surgery but can’t keep even water down

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery a little over a week ago everything is going good for me but my spouse had surgery on Tuesday and when cleared yesterday to sip liquids was able to get in some Water but not much before dry heaving. Very nauseous all day, dinner came tried a sip of everything and ending spiting up the warm Decaf tea. So my spouse had to stay in the hospital and this morning threw up again! I know it’s the nausea but how can they get rid of it since they are already giving zofran and it’s not helping! Any one else have this problem? How long did it last?

Try changing the temp of the Water or adding some calorie free flavoring. There are lot of people that have water texture and temp issues post weight loss surgery. Find the temp / flavor that they can keep down and stick to that for a bit. There are also water thickeners that you can buy from any pharmacy to add to the liquids to see if maybe thickening them up slightly helps out.

That's a crappy situation and I hope it gets better soon!

Matt Z thanks for the suggestions, spouse was released Thursday, ended up being the pain meds causing the nausea. All is going good now! Thanks

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
