In ny state and with my insurance I have to do a 3 month medically supervised diet prior to getting a surgery date. I started walking 2 miles a day, which is so hard, and I've lost 7 lbs since July 11th. I'm terrified of slipping on my diet or not being able to lose the weight the dr suggested. Any recommendations?

Tracking your progress (especially food intake, Water consumption, exercise, etc.) is very helpful in staying accountable. Try Myfitnesspal or an App of your choice. Safe Journey!

Good for you on doing your thing. I could hardly walk five steps pre op due to back issues. Not sure how but since surgery my back pain is much more manageable and I have started taking 30ish minute walks. Hope to soon be able to get to 2 miles. Stick to it and you'll have no issues at all. I lost 30 plus lbs in four months leading up to surgery mainly by cutting out carbs. Tracking everything is a big plus.

Good Luck and WELCOME!!!!!

Thank you and I've got horrible back issues also. It takes me about 50 minutes to do my 2 miles and I'm in so much pain afterwards. I've been cutting all sugar and bread intake and its helping so much. I'm hoping I can keep it up.

My medically supervised diet was high fat/ low carb. Basically cut out bread and sugar and focus on protein.... also fun fact that will be your life after surgery too! 🙂

I'm working on doing that. I live in the south so everyone's world is bread and deep fried foods lol.

Do you mind me asking what your highest weight was and how many months you had to diet prior to surgery?

Congrats on your progress so far! Cutting breads and excess sugars is a very good start! Start looking at your Protein intake. This will help keep you full and you will need to do it after surgery as well anyway, right? Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
