Ride needed August 1st in Salt Lake City

Recommended Posts

Next Wednesday, August 1st, I have my upper endoscopy scheduled at 2:15 pm. I had a ride set up for that afternoon but now has fallen through. I was wondering if anyone knows anyone in the Salt Lake City area who would be able to pick me up from the University of Utah medical center and drop me off at my hotel a couple of miles away, please?

I am willing to pay for their help and also to let them use my car for the transportation. Please send me a private message for my phone number and additional details, if you can help out.

I really appreciate it! Thank you in advance!

edit: public transportation such as a car service, Uber, Lyft, or the hotel shuttle service are not allowed...

Not trying to be snarky, but you can use Lyft or Uber :)

Actually, I meant to say that they forbid the use of public transportation. I was just going to use the hotel shuttle but they said that does not work either. I've now edited my original post to include that. And I did not take your remark as snarky. I wish they would let me use one of those services.

I'm ready to hire a homeless person but I don't think I'd ever see my car again... (-:

Well, I would fake it. I'd call a Lyft and tell them a friend is picking you up. That seems like a pretty ridiculous policy to me.

I thought about that too. Since I'm out of the area, I have not tried it yet. If I do not have anyone to drive me on the day of the procedure, I may bribe one an Uber / Lyft driver into doing just what you suggest. Good idea!

I agree it is a ridiculous policy.

There is a type of non-emergency medical transportation called cabulance that you could look into. I used one after an EGD a few years ago when I couldn’t find someone (last minute) to take me home after the procedure. It was self-pay.

You insurance should provide transport. Call them

This is not necessarily true. Patients are expected to find an adult to take them home after a procedure with twilight sedation. I’ve never heard of an insurance company picking up the transportation costs after an EGD.

I asked my insurance company but they do not offer (or pay for) any transportation services outside of Idaho.

I'm looking into non-emergency medical transportation now and I have a call into the doctor's office to see if this will work. Thanks for the tip!

I get it... really... :P

Actually, I plan to call them later today to see if there is something I can arrange with a driver to come in with me and check in, then leave and pick me up after the appointment. Maybe if they do not announce they are an Uber driver, it will work.

If I were not already so far into the process, I'd definitely take you up on that offer! Thank you!

BTW, I'll be visiting Albany next summer for the commencement ceremony for Excelsior College, where I'll be graduating from in February 2019. I hope to be close to my goal weight by then.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
